My name is Joi (“Joy”) and I was born and raised in Madisonville, Kentucky. My family currently lives in Owensboro, Kentucky. Owensboro is, in my opinion, one of the greatest towns on earth. I absolutely love it here. Friendly people, great food, quiet parks, and four (count ‘em, four!) Starbucks cafes. Plus, Johnny Depp was born here. Come on! It doesn’t get any better than that.
I work from home as a web publisher, writer, web designer, and blogger.
I love nothing more than spending time with my family and cats. The biggest baby of the entire family, Alexa, is pictured above. She’s my constant companion and, as you can see in the picture, she oversees all of my work online. She also loves to watch tv with me. Justified, UK basketball, and baseball are her personal favorites. She’s mad crushing on Timothy Olyphat, Deron Lamb, and Albert Pujols.
I’m an avid cook, animal lover extraordinaire, bird watcher, history buff, and movie fanatic. I love movies, old and new, and even have a Hollywood Yesterday blog where I do my level best to keep the golden age of Hollywood and television alive. I also have a food blog where I celebrate my love for all things culinary. I’m addicted to coffee, chocolate, catfish, and onion rings. Like Alexa, I love the UK Wildcats, St. Louis Cardinals, and (as long as UK isn’t playing them) I’m a big fan of the Louisville Cardinals and the Western Hilltoppers.
Genuine Kentucky is a family-owned and operated web publishing venture. I do the writing, research, web design, graphics, linking, and so forth. My husband, Mike, takes care of the business end. He also gathers news and ideas for me to write about and creates videos – in addition to being the web site’s main photographer. He also keeps my Starbucks card loaded. Given enough coffee, I could rule the world and he’s financing the venture.
Our daughters also contribute photos, ideas, Starbucks cards, and inspiration.
We all love exploring our beautiful state and telling others about what we’ve seen, heard, felt, and tasted. I write just like I talk and will always give you my straight-up, honest opinion. I am, by nature, and extremely positive person – so, generally, (for example) if I don’t like a restaurant – I simply don’t say anything!
