Augusta Kentucky Honors its Rosemary Clooney and White Christmas
Augusta, Kentucky (Rosemary Clooney’s birthplace) is dreaming of a White Christmas this year. Actually, they’re more than just dreaming – they’re following through with it.
Rosemary Clooney’s hometown will host a parade on Dec. 19th saluting the 1954 Paramount film, White Christmas, wich starred Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera-Ellen and Rosemary Clooney. The parade will take place at 7 pm on Main Street.
“The basic idea is that Augusta is the home of ‘White Christmas,’ ” says Steve Henry, who owns the Rosemary Clooney Home museum in Augusta with his wife, former Miss America Heather French Henry, also from Augusta. They bought the 1835 home and opened the museum after the talented actress died in 2002.
Paramount Pictures will shoot segments of the parade as a video extra for the 55th anniversary “White Christmas” DVD release next year. They will also interview Rosemary’s brother, Nick Clooney – at the museum (106 E. Riverside Drive, an hour southeast of Cincinnati).
Apparently the museum has an incredible amount of memorabilia from “White Christmas.” Rosemary Clooney’s dresses, robe and rhinestone gloves from the film are on display. The collection also includes Crosby’s World War II uniform costume, feather fans from the Clooney/Vera-Ellen “Sisters” duet and more.
The museum will be open 2-8 p.m. the day of the parade, plus 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 1-6 p.m. Sunday. A $5 donation is requested.
