For Ages 6 - 16, On November 3, 2012
Barren River Lake State Resort Park is one of my favorite Kentucky State Parks. I’m possibly the biggest lover of trees in all the world and Barren River Lake is full of them. The staff is very friendly and – just between you and me – they have the best fried potatoes in the entire State Park System. They’re spud-tacular! Sliced on a mandolin and, apparently, fried in unicorn magic.
Barren River is gorgeous, year round, but it really shows off in the Autumn, which means the Annual Youth Boot Camp’s timing is impeccable.
Before I get to the event, allow me to just stress how important it is to raise children with a strong appreciation for and pride in their state. I LOVE seeing parents with their children at our Kentucky State Parks – exposing them to nature and the amazing beauty that is Kentucky. I always want to pat the parents on the back. By unplugging their children from tv, computers, games, and phones of all shapes and sizes, they’re opening up a whole new world for their family. They’re exposing their children to a hands on education and instilling a love of the outdoors in them.
As a bonus, their getting exercise and fresh air. H-E-A-L-T-H-Y! Kentucky State Parks are the perfect place to experience family togetherness, learn new sports/activities (fishing, golfing, tennis, boating, photography…), embrace Kentucky’s culture and history… all while supporting our wonderful Kentucky State Parks.
Barren River Lake State Resort Park will host its annual Youth Boot Camp on Nov. 3, 2012. This would be a great opportunity to get your kid(s) involved in the great outdoors!
From the Kentucky State Parks: Bring your young “soldier,” ages 6 to 16, to this fun morning of “boot camp.” The drill sergeants will have the troops in line in no time, ready to carry out many fun skills.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and events start at 9 a.m. Activities include paintball gun, an obstacle course, radio communications and first aid. Boot camp will conclude with drill followed by a light lunch. The registration deadline is Nov. 1. The fee is $5 per child and includes all activities, lunch and a camouflage bandana.
