Broadbent Hams: A Delicious Kentucky Tradition
As you may know, I’ve written about Broadbent’s (those responsible for the AMAZING and infamous Broadbent Hams) on Genuine Kentucky before. You may even remember the mouth-watering pictures I shared with you.
Well, I’m back at it today. More bacon. More ham. More raving. More mouth-watering pictures.
If the Broadbent’s store in Kuttawa is within reach, go ahead and start planning your trip today. It’s one of those places that prove to be so much more than you expected. Trust me. Go.
If you aren’t within reach, you don’t have to miss out on Broadbent’s exceptional food products. Visit their website (Broadbent Hams) and place your order or request a catalog.
On a recent trip to Broadbent’s, in addition to a few other items, my husband bought bacon we hadn’t tried before: Maplewood Smoked Bacon (pictured below). Naturally, I had to fry some up and try it right away. The flavor was just as wonderful as you’d expect it to be. Paired with fried eggs, it wasn’t just good, it was mmmm mmmm good.

He also grabbed some Hickory Smoked Country Bacon and Country Ham Hickory Smoked Skins on his trip. I’ve taught him so well.
The Hickory Smoked Country Bacon is just good old fashioned bacon – everything bacon should be and nothing it shouldn’t be. Broadbent’s bacon is crispier (and thicker) than bacon most people are used to, making them wonderful for eating alongside breakfast, on a BLT, or as toppings for a great tossed salad or potato soup. It’s just very special bacon and you really have to try it for yourself.
As wonderful as their bacon is, I’m an even bigger fan of their ham. Whether we’re talking a whole ham, ham slices, or simply ham to be used for seasoning, it does not get any better than Broadbent’s.
Some people only think of ham when it comes to Easter or Christmas, but around our house, we love ham anytime we can get it. Smoked, baked, fried… it doesn’t matter. Seriously, is it EVER the wrong time for a great ham sandwich? Broadbent’s takes an exceptional food (ham) and makes it even more exceptional (Broadbent’s Ham). Add that to the fact that I LOVE buying Kentucky products and supporting Kentucky businesses – and you’ve got a recipe for happiness. Ham happiness.

Ironically I was putting some beans on to cook this morning and grumbled out loud about not having any Broadbent Ham on hand for seasoning. Fortunately the only one in the room to hear my belly-aching was my cat Alexa, and she was too busy bird-watching to pat any attention to me. The grumbling did, at least, remind me that I had not written this Broadbent’s review yet – so at least something came from it.
Once again, I strongly encourage you to drive to Kuttawa (or Cadiz) and visit one of the Broadbent’s stores in person or… at the very least… visit their website: Broadbent Hams. You’ll wonder how you ever got along without them.
