Green Turtle Bay Resort and Marina: Top Kentucky Family Resort

The beautiful weather we’ve been enjoying the past few days has everyone thinking about grilling out, baseball, and summer fun in the sun. Fortunately, we have plenty of places to choose from here in Kentucky to enjoy all the fun we can handle. Green Turtle Bay in Grand Rivers, Kentucky is a great option. Resorts and Lodges.com didn’t just rank Green Turtle Bay in their Top 10 Kentucky Family Resorts, they ranked them #1.

If you’ve never had the opportunity to visit Green Turtle Bay, watch the video above to get an idea about what you’ve been missing.

Genuine Kentucky Loves Green Turtle Bay

I was in the process of rounding up links and images for the sidebar earlier this morning. After I grabbed (gently, of course) the turtle to link to gorgeous Green Turtle Bay, I browsed around their site for a while. My finely tuned nose smelled something I needed to spend money on.

Right! As Always! Sorry honey!

Check out the drop dead gorgeous hat and tee above. Are they smart or what? The hat/shirt combo comes in several color combinations. The one I’m showing above is the blue hat/tan shirt, but apparently it’s also available in a combination with a tan hat/orange tee. If you live in Tennessee, I guess the orange would be right up your alley – or down your field. For those of us who are standing by our Kentucky Mildcats, we’ll stick with the blue. Seems kind of appropriate this season. And last. And…

Anyway, I absolutely love these hats/tees. Click HERE to take a closer look. Better yet, do whatever it takes to get to Grand Rivers and Green Turtle Bay, in person. You can’t eat at Docker’s Bayside Grill online – and, trust me, you’ll want to eat at Docker’s Bayside Grill – for breakfast AND lunch.

Visit Green Turtle Bay’s website for information on condominium rentals. The prices are so much lower than you’d expect for such a breathtaking view. And Docker’s Bayside Grill. Obsessed? Why, yes, I am.

Also, while in Grand Rivers (after all, I’ve convinced you to have an extended stay, right?) be CERTAIN you take in at least one show at Badgett Playhouse. You’ll be thanking me for two forevers…or at least until UK hits the top 10 again.

Docker’s Bayside Grill’s Breakfast will Slap a Silly Smile on Your Face

Docker's Bayside Grill

About a week ago I wrote a post extolling the virtues of Docker’s Bayside Grill. You remember, Onion Ring Mecca. (I tried to get hooked up with some during Marina Day, because I’d been thinking about them all week, but they couldn’t “come out and play” – so I settled for chips. That’s okay, I don’t mind when they play hard to get.)

We left home early to make sure we got to Docker’s in time for breakfast this time. Good move. No, great move.

My husband ordered the omelette to absolutely end all omelettes. This thing was an absolute work of art. It was HUGE and when I threatened to kick him under the table, he actually parted with a bite – delicious!

I got a biscuit, gravy, and hasbrowns. The gravy was so amazing I’m not even fit to describe it. It’s next to impossible to get good gravy out, but this gravy couldn’t have been better if it’d been served by Johnny Depp, himself. (Did I mention he’s from Owensboro?) The biscuit was spectacular, too. If you order gravy and biscuits – and I strongly recommend it – be sure to order the “2 biscuits” option because they’re very generous with their gravy, you’ll want plenty of bread to grab every drop.

The hasbrowns were perfect, too. Not over-cooked, not under-cooked – just perfect. I loved that about them and I told them so. Even the coffee was Heavenly!

Make it a point to find yourself in Grand Rivers, Kentucky on your next available morning. Then point your empty stomach in the direction of the gorgeous Green Turtle Bay Resort & Marina. (Take your morning paper with you if you think anything’s fit to read.) When you get to Docker’s Bayside Grill, sit facing the window and the spectacular view it offers, order your breakfast and coffee and get ready for it. “It” being the ridiculously silly smile that’s about to spread across your face.

This silly grin is another reason to sit facing the windows. You don’t want anyone else to see you like that. The windows, however, are so used to that face they think that’s how humans are supposed to look.

The National Marina Day celebration in Grand Rivers is scheduled for Saturday, August 9, and activities will take place at Green Turtle Bay Marina and Resort and Lighthouse Landing Marina and Resort.

Join us in Grand Rivers to celebrate National Marina Day with Green Turtle Bay and Lighthouse Landing. These marinas give our community and visitors access to clean healthy waterways. We salute the role they play in the American recreational boating industry!

I hope you’ll mark your calendar and plan to join in the party. While there, please do yourself an enormous flavor and stop in the Fudge Factory. I know I sound like a broken record, but this is the best fudge in the world. The peanut butter, pecan divinity, chocolate, and chewy praline are my personal favorites, but I’ve never met one yet that I didn’t like. They had a flavor recently that had peanut butter and chocolate both – it’s basically what a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup wants to be when it grows up. Dream, little guy, dream.

Lose yourself in all the wonders of Grand Rivers, you’ll love each and every one. Trust me, the minute you leave this village, you find yourself wanting to turn around and go back, a.s.a.p.

Fortuantely that’s a big Can Do!
