Photo Weekend Planned At Blue Licks Battlefield Oct. 14-15

Talk about a beautiful setting for photography! Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park has, literally, countless opportunities to take breathtaking photographs.  It’s also a fun place to take the entire family.  On October 14 and 15, you’ll all want to bring your cameras.

Photographers who want to learn more about outdoor and nature photography should make plans to visit Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park Oct. 14-15, 2011.

Tom Patrick of Georgetown, Ohio, will serve as the instructor for this weekend of fall photography. The weekend will start Friday at 6 p.m. with a discussion on techniques and equipment. Participants will spend Saturday taking photos around the Licking River and the park, for critiques and discussion later in the day.

The cost for the weekend photography session is $90 per person. There are special lodging rates for participants, so call the park at 1-800-443-7008 for information and lodging reservations.

Blue Licks Battlefield Hosting Re-enactment Aug. 20-21

If you’re a history buff, like I am, you live for re-enactments. Well, that and chocolate. Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park (near Lexington, Kentucky) is approaching their celebration of the 2229th anniversary of the Battle of Blue Licks. They’re going to celebrate in a very fitting way!

The 229th anniversary of the Battle of Blue Licks, the last Revolutionary War battle in Kentucky, will be commemorated Aug. 20-21 at Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park.

The park will host a variety of special programs throughout the entire weekend, including special exhibits at the Pioneer Museum of original powder horns and shooting bags.

Beginning at 8 a.m. on Aug. 20, visitors can enjoy a variety of programs designed for the whole family. Live music, hands-on pottery making, living history performances including Albert Robert, the gentleman physician, and Maggie Delaney, the indentured servant, are just a few of the special programs scheduled for the weekend.

A re-enactment of the Battle of Blue Licks will be held at 3 p.m. each day. Programs will continue on Sunday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Admission to the event is $5 for ages 13 and above; ages 12 and under are FREE with a special entry fee of $15 per carload. The special $15 carload fee will grant access to all individuals in the vehicle. Admission includes parking and access to all pay facilities such as the public pool, mini golf, Pioneer Museum and all of the special programs.

Winter Packages Offered At Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park

We still have a little bit of winter left here in Kentucky, but it’s not all bad.  I’m (literally) counting the days to baseball season and chomping at the bit to get up to my elbows in dirt in my flower and herb beds, but snow is beautiful and UK basketball season is always fun.

Here’s another advantage to winter: Sometimes you can score some great deals.  Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park, for example has quite a special going on.

Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park is offering some winter specials good through March 31, 2011.

The Bed and Breakfast Package for two includes a lodge room for one night and breakfast for $75 plus tax.

The Blue Licks Journey for Two includes dinner, a lodge room for one night and breakfast for two people for $99 plus tax.

The rate for both packages is good Wednesday through Saturday and cannot be used during special events or holidays. These packages are based on availability.

Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park is one of the few remaining Revolutionary War battlefields in the United States and offers various events, festivals and recreation opportunities throughout the year.  The park features a restaurant, lodge, cottages, museum, campground, gift shop, mini-golf, picnic areas, hiking trails, swimming pool during summer months and more.

The park is located 48 miles northeast of Lexington on U.S. 68, between Mount Olivet and Carlisle.
