Owensboro Kentucky – A Great Place to Visit and an Even Greater Place to Call Home

Owensboro, KentuckyI’ve had the great fortune (great, great, great fortune) to live a lot of different places in my life.  I was born in Madisonville, Kentucky and spent the majority of my life between the ages of 1 day and 19 years in this small southern town.  It was home and I loved every square inch of it.  For a few years, while I was in grade school, my family and I lived in gorgeous Lexington, Kentucky.  So many white fences and so many horses!

When I was married, at 19, my husband was in the Air Force and that allowed us the golden opportunity to live in southern Illinois and Wichita, Kansas for several years.

We’ve also lived in Metro Louisville (great city!) as well as on Pensacola Beach, Florida and in Webster City, Iowa.  We also did a pretty good tour of Indiana:  Washington, Indiana and Charlestown and New Albany, Indiana.

For years now, Owensboro Kentucky has been home and, frankly, I hope we never leave.  Owensboro is my kind of town – it’s “big enough” and it’s “small enough.”  It’s big enough to be within minutes of a movie theater, shopping, and restaurants but small enough to not run into killer traffic or lines along the way.  We also don’t have to deal with much crime here in the ‘boro.  Honestly, it seems that we heard about more crime in little Madisonville and Washington, Indiana than we do here.

Add to that the fact that we have 3 Starbucks, great parks, a killer walking and bike trail, a Kohl’s, a huge Target, and my favorite restaurants…. I’m as content as I was the day they announced John Calipari was coming to UK.

I also love the fact that we’re just across the river from Evansville, Indiana and close enough to make trips to Land Between the Lakes or Nashville Tennessee without necessarily having to stay the night.

Below is a link to a great article that mentions the town I’m proud to call my hometown. The article is about “Main Street Middle America” and I know you’ll enjoy it.   Main Street Middle America, Don’t Get Mad, Get Ahead
