A lot of times on Genuine Kentucky, I’ll say something to the effect of, “Pictures really don’t do this place credit, you have to see it for yourself.” When my youngest daughter Stephany and I spent the afternoon at Smothers Park in Downtown Owensboro a few days ago, these words played out with each picture I took. I knew there’d be NO WAY to capture all of the beautiful sights and sounds in photographs.
The new and stunningly beautiful Smothers Park in downtown Owensboro redefines the words, “You have to see this for yourself.”
From one end of Smothers Park and the RiverWalk to the other end, there’s nothing but absolute and perfect beauty. Every now and then (even though I work with words over 8 hours a day), I’m speechless. I honestly have no idea how I could even begin to describe how wonderful Owensboro’s Riverfront is. Water fountains, a cascading waterfall leading down to the river, a state of the art AMAZING children’s park, countless swinging metal benches, a bathroom and concession stand building, metal bistro seats and tables for enjoying coffee from the Creme Coffee House (109 East 2nd Street) or a burger and malt from Bee Bop’s (both within walking distance)…
I hope you’ll visit our gallery of Smothers Park Pictures and enjoy the fruits of a lot of time, a lot of labor, and a lot of pride. Better still, come to Owensboro and enjoy Smothers Park in person. I’ll be the brunette sitting at one of the bistro tables with a Chai Tea Latte from the Creme Coffee House and a wrap (or burger) from Bee Bop’s. You’ll know me, I’ll have a camera in my hand snapping wildly at all the beauty around me…. in between bites, of course.
