Panther Creek Park in Owensboro - Autumn

Panther Creek Park (Owensboro) may not be as large as our wonderful Kentucky State Parks, but it is a relaxing and beautiful place to get away from it all. The walking trails are really something else and, if you take the longest trail, you’ll get all you bargained for.

Trust me!

The pictures here were taken, obviously, in autumn – which is (in my opinion)  when Panther Creek Park is at its finest.

One of the Trails at Panther Creek Park, Owensboro

This picture was taken on a recent visit to Panther Creek Park here in Owensboro with two of my three daughters, Emily and Stephany.  Unfortunately the third daughter, Brittany, had to work… I know she’d MUCH rather have been walking and catching up on girl talk.

The trails at Panther Creek Park are just amazing. You can get as much or as little exercise as you’d like, simply by taking one of the longer ones or shorter ones.

I guess it depends on how much “talking” you have to do.  As for me and my bunch, we take the longest path possible.  This is where I tell my husband and their father, NO COMMENT!

I urge you to get out and find a great spot to walk,  hike, or even jog if you’re so inclined (I find that you can’t talk while jogging, so, you know, that’s out…).  Many of the Kentucky State Parks have excellent trails for hiking if you’re lucky enough to live near one.  Otherwise, check out the trails in your area.

Picture of the Day for Fellow Bird Lovers: Welcoming Back Robins!

February 12, 2013 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Robin at Panther Creek Park, Owensboro
I love birds with all that’s within me, but I’m never any happier to see ANY bird than I am the first robin each year.  That first chubby little orange belly always makes me smile ear to ear because it’s what I consider my first sign of waving goodbye to winter and hello to spring.

The first robin I saw this year was Thursday morning (Feb. 7). I was enthralled in my morning ritual – standing at the window, drinking coffee while watching the birds at our bird feeders and feeding stations.  I did a double-take when I saw my little harbinger of spring hopping across the yard.  I excitedly told my cat, “The first robin!” but her expression said, “Delicious,” so I found someone else to celebrate with.

The robin in the picture above was photographed later that day when my youngest daughter and I took advantage of the 66 degree weather by walking at Panther Creek Park. It was just ridiculously gorgeous and we loved every single minute, as did the birds, ducks, and a couple of older men who were fishing and just plain loving life.

The adorable robin actually stood perfectly still, consenting to pose for me.  She apparently loved the camera because I could have snapped 100 and she never would have complained once.  After a few shots, though, I simply put my camera down and just watched her.  Realizing that the photo shoot was over, she flew off to another spot.

See the other pictures I took that afternoon on our Panther Creek Park Pictures page – the newest ones are at the bottom.

Just look for the little camera lover.

Autumn Trees

A friend of my husband’s recently visited us here in Owensboro, Kentucky for a few days. Like me, one of this friend’s hobbies is photography. Truth be told, he actually makes money with his photography, which I suppose makes him  a legitimate “photographer,” while I’m just sitting here like, “Oh, Look! I got a shot of a goose in flight!”

I’m just so professional like that.

Michael wanted to take his friend to Panther Creek Park (a real treat for photographers, professional or otherwise) but they ran out of time.  It’s an absolute shame because, like a lot of places in Kentucky, Panther Creek Park  and cameras were made for one another.

I just added a new photo gallery to the Owensboro album, dedicated to this very special place.  See Panther Creek Park Pictures for more great pictures.  And, yes… I caught a goose in  flight. Yay, me!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and, in the case of Kentucky, I’d say that’s 100 percent true.  We could use up all the words in the English language (and even borrow some from other languages), but we could never truly describe how beautiful or special our beloved state is.

You’ll have to just see for yourself in our growing collection of pictures of Kentucky! Also, be sure to check out our Pictures of the Day.

Panther Creek Park in Owensboro, Kentucky

Panther Creek Park in Owensboro, Kentucky
Panther Creek Park, which offers 30 acres of wooded wetlands, is one of many cool places to spend a day in Owensboro, Kentucky. The pictures, below, were taken by a few of my favorite people in the world – my daughter Emily and her boyfriend Dill. It was a cool spring day when they last visited the park – judging from the look on Dill’s face, it may have been a little too cool for him (the boy hates cold weather about as much as I hate decaf).
