Old Things New (Official Music Video) by Chad Hoard

October 18, 2018 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

The wonderful video and song below are from Kentucky’s own Chad Hoard. This is the title track from Chad’s debut album “Old Things New.”

I would be sharing this beautiful and inspiring video with you, anyway, BUT there’s a little extra incentive. Chad is actually married to my husband’s youngest niece. What’s more, another of his nieces co-stars in the video.

Amazing thing is, I never knew Chad sang or that she acted…. but, boy do I know now!

I hope you’ll visit Chad Hoard’s Official Website and read more about this Western Kentucky born and raised musician, song writer, and singer. You can also download the album free on the website.

Downtown Greensburg: More Than Just Slaw Burgers!

November 11, 2015 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Green County Historic Marker

Historic Downtown Greensburg

One of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon is to roll into a Kentucky downtown, get out of the car, and get to know every nook and cranny.  Even if it’s a downtown I’m familiar with, I never tire of the nooks or the crannies.

Greensburg is a great little historical downtown. As a history buff, I think I could hang out there for hours just sitting and imagining what it was like long ago.  That’s one of my favorite things to do in downtowns  – “picture” how everything looked as people went about their daily routines generations ago.

Old Greensburg Courthouse

Old Greensburg Courthouse

Old buildings that now house new businesses just fascinate me. I know that many of these buildings have to be repaired and maintained, but when they’re left as close to the original building as possible, it’s a beautiful thing.

Downtown Greensburg, Ky

… a Slaw Burger, Fries, and a Bottle of Ski!

It was a huge, colossal, downright soul-crushing disappointment to find that Ennis’ Home of the Headhunters’ Original Slawburgers was closed. The Kentucky Headhunters put Ennis’ on the map with their popular song “Dumas Walkers.” Okay, so maybe it wasn’t “soul crushing,” but it WAS a huge disappointment.

Well, let’s all go down to Dumas Walker.
Let’s all go down to Dumas Walker.
We’ll get a slaw burger, fries, and a bottle of Ski.
Bring it on out to my baby and me.

The Old Greensburg Courthouse (gallery below) is someplace all history lovers should visit. Just look at the beautiful HUGE chain between the columns. It’s really a fascinating building.

This chain serves as a reminder that we should never just walk past any building or landmark. Stop, look around, and appreciate what’s right in front of you.

Now, it’s only fitting to end the trip to Greensburg with a “slaw burger, fries, and a bottle of Ski…” right?

Baseball fans, did you know Rod Henderson is from Greensburg? Henderson was born in Greensburg and attended Glasgow High School (Glasgow, Kentucky). He then went to the University of Kentucky, where he pitched for the Wildcats’ baseball team.

He was drafted in 1992 by the Montreal Expos. In addition to pitching in Montreal, he pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers in 1998.

I believe he is currently a professional scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates – one of the most exciting teams in baseball. Even though they’re one of my St. Louis Cardinals biggest rivals, I respect the way they play the game. Even more so now that I know they have a Kentuckian in their organization… and an ex-Wildcat, at that!

Video: Kentucky Lake Magic at Lighthouse Landing

August 7, 2015 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

[youtube id=”MzUMvtymfI8″]

While this video is shorter than a cat’s nose, it gives you an idea of just how peaceful and perfect a day at Kentucky Lake can be.  Michael and I were hanging out on the deck overlooking Kentucky Lake, at Lighthouse Landing.  It was a gorgeous summer day with a wonderful breeze (that’s what you hear in the video).

The moment begged for a little video, so I obliged.

Grand Rivers is an uncommonly special place. It’s a beautiful “village” between Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. Minutes from Land Between the Lakes and Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park, you’re literally surrounded by things to do, see, and photograph.

When most people think of Grand Rivers, they think of Grand Rivers Variety (at Badgett Playhouse), Lighthouse Landing, Green Turtle Bay, the Fudge Factory (YUM!) and Patti’s Settlement (legendary Kentucky restaurant).

While I have nothing but mammoth love for each of these places, when I think of Grand Rivers, I think of moments. Moments like the one captured in the video.

Kentucky Rain by Elvis: Video With Scenes from Kentucky

April 16, 2015 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Like most people, when I’m asked for my “favorite song,” several come to mind instead of just one. The first ones to come to my mind are are always…

Elvis, Kentucky Rain

Kris Kristofferson, Why Me Lord?

Eagles, How Long?

Alison Kraus, When You Say Nothing at All

Boyce and Hart, I Wonder What She’s Doing Tonight

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, I Second That Emotion

The Sweet, Little Willy

Montgomery Gentry, Daddy Won’t Sell the Farm (and My Town)

Other songs may join my “Big Eight” but they never fall from glory.

With such a beautiful rainy morning here in Kentucky, Elvis’ Kentucky Rain has been on my mind all morning. I’ve even sung it a few times for my cats. They asked me to “please, please stop,” so I turned to YouTube and allowed the Big E to sing it himself.

I found the video below and fell in love with it. SEEING scenes of Kentucky while HEARING Elvis sing?

Come on, it does not get any better than that. Enjoy!

Undercover Boss at Churchill Downs – Great Stuff!

March 15, 2010 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

On the most recent episode of CBS’s Undercover Boss, William C. Carstanjen worked “undercover” at Churchill Downs. In the video below, he learns that his “boss” has an angel named Megan – a daughter he recently lost. If this video doesn’t choke you up, check your pulse.

Unfortunately, the video cuts off before the sweetest part. Each episode of Undercover Boss ends with the big reveal, when employees discover they’ve been working with the boss. The boss in question generally tries to do what they can to make life a little better for these employees. Great stuff.

Willaim Carstanjen bestowed raises, promotions, and he even stepped up employee security. In the case of the jockey valet in the video below, Carstansjen named a memorial race at the track after his much beloved daughter. The grieving father was also invited to come to the winners circle, and bring any family members he chose to and present the winner’s trophy.

And they say there’s nothing good on tv anymore. Horse feathers.

Click HERE to see a video that actually shows the father’s reaction.
