Historic Downtown Greensburg
One of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon is to roll into a Kentucky downtown, get out of the car, and get to know every nook and cranny. Even if it’s a downtown I’m familiar with, I never tire of the nooks or the crannies.
Greensburg is a great little historical downtown. As a history buff, I think I could hang out there for hours just sitting and imagining what it was like long ago. That’s one of my favorite things to do in downtowns – “picture” how everything looked as people went about their daily routines generations ago.

Old Greensburg Courthouse
Old buildings that now house new businesses just fascinate me. I know that many of these buildings have to be repaired and maintained, but when they’re left as close to the original building as possible, it’s a beautiful thing.

… a Slaw Burger, Fries, and a Bottle of Ski!
It was a huge, colossal, downright soul-crushing disappointment to find that Ennis’ Home of the Headhunters’ Original Slawburgers was closed. The Kentucky Headhunters put Ennis’ on the map with their popular song “Dumas Walkers.” Okay, so maybe it wasn’t “soul crushing,” but it WAS a huge disappointment.
Well, let’s all go down to Dumas Walker.
Let’s all go down to Dumas Walker.
We’ll get a slaw burger, fries, and a bottle of Ski.
Bring it on out to my baby and me.

The Old Greensburg Courthouse (gallery below) is someplace all history lovers should visit. Just look at the beautiful HUGE chain between the columns. It’s really a fascinating building.
This chain serves as a reminder that we should never just walk past any building or landmark. Stop, look around, and appreciate what’s right in front of you.

Now, it’s only fitting to end the trip to Greensburg with a “slaw burger, fries, and a bottle of Ski…” right?
Baseball fans, did you know Rod Henderson is from Greensburg? Henderson was born in Greensburg and attended Glasgow High School (Glasgow, Kentucky). He then went to the University of Kentucky, where he pitched for the Wildcats’ baseball team.
He was drafted in 1992 by the Montreal Expos. In addition to pitching in Montreal, he pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers in 1998.
I believe he is currently a professional scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates – one of the most exciting teams in baseball. Even though they’re one of my St. Louis Cardinals biggest rivals, I respect the way they play the game. Even more so now that I know they have a Kentuckian in their organization… and an ex-Wildcat, at that!
