The CQ Princess offers a double-decker heated indoor cabin with wrap-around windows, allowing guests an opportunity to view eagles in comfort. On-board naturalists will help guests spot eagles and other winter wildlife. Each cruise includes a hot catered meal, hot and cold beverages, and clean restrooms.
“Land Between The Lakes serves as a major wintering spot for bald eagles from northern areas such as Michigan and Canada,” stated John Pollpeter, Nature Station’s Lead Naturalist. “Since Kentucky and Barkley lakes remain unfrozen throughout winter, they attract northern bald eagles looking for open water where they can find fish. Land Between The Lakes’ 300 miles of undeveloped, forested shoreline provides eagles with the ideal habitat they need to thrive.”
In 2015, biologists counted close to 150 bald eagles wintering in the Land Between The Lakes area, as well as 24 active nests. Eagle van tours and river cruises give visitors a chance to view these majestic birds in their natural habitat.
