Madisonville City Park Sign
Two of my daughters and I spent a rainy autumn day in Madisonville (our hometown) Monday and, in spite of all the clouds and rain, came away with some pretty great pictures.
Owensboro is home now – and has been for over 10 years – but Madisonville will always have a very, very special place in our hearts. While it’s still a very small town, it has grown a lot since I was a little girl. The jury’s still out on whether that’s a good or bad thing – personally I think it’s somewhere in between.

Great, Awesome, Beautiful, and Cool Tree
Whenever we visit Madisonville, though, one thing is almost always the same – the beautiful city park. A lot of playground equipment I played on and even treehouses and swings my daughters enjoyed are gone, but the gorgeous layout of the land, the beautiful little lake, the Club House, Elmer Kelley Stadium, picnic areas, and walking trail are always just as we left them.

And the trees! If you know anything about me, you know I’m obsessed with trees. Whether I’m driving or riding, I’m always pointing out trees that catch my eye and gushing about how “great” they are. When my daughters and I saw the one pictured above, I initially called it “great.” Then in the course of photographing it, I also called it awesome, beautiful, and cool.
No adjectives were spared!

If you’re from Madisonville, I’m sure these pictures bring a flood of memories to you as well. Family reunions in the picnic area, your child learning to swing where the swing sets once stood, fishing, golfing, walking the trail, and on and on. We enjoyed so many family picnics at the City Park, I can almost smell the bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Madisonville City Park in its Autumn Splendor
Some people are kind of funny about their “home town.” Some act like it’s kind of “beneath” them. Not us. While we’re proud to call Owensboro home now, we’re just as proud of where we came from – and that happens to be Madisonville, Kentucky… home to one of the most beautiful city parks in the state.
