Windy Hollow is an area in Owensboro, Kentucky that a lot of people can’t even imagine summer without! What with camping, a lake you can swim in (with a killer slide!), picnic areas, and even a speedway – is it any wonder Windy Hollow is as popular as it is.
Windy Hollow is ten miles south of Owensboro, off KY 81. The ride to Windy Hollow is the kind of beautiful ride you’d expect from Kentucky back roads – the journey is even as beautiful as the destination, itself, and that’s really saying something.

We LOVE Diamond Lake camping and are on our 3rd generation for camping there. We like to camp in the older section facing the water. It is also convenient for the kids to go swimming. It is so relaxing to sit outside especially early morning and at dusk watching the water ripple as the ducks swim along. It provides a wonderful opportunity for family togetherness. The kids take off on their bikes as us old folks rent a golf cart and circle around the campground. We feel so safe there both in the camper and allowing the kids to ride off on own their own. They have really gotten better about planning events not only for the holidays but on other occasions. ( a giant yard sale, car shows, and activities at the theater) We enjoy it because it is close to home (Henderson) and very economical ($25-30 a night). We can also get 2 sites together for our son and us as well as putting up a tent for only $10. The rest rooms are not fancy but very clean. We have been going there for 40 years and it continues to make happy memories for our family. It should be listed on your things to do in KY. We much prefer it to some of the places by the Lake. Try it! They also have “hotel” rooms and cottages.
