Beautiful Sugar Bay, Land Between the Lakes
If you’re familiar with Genuine Kentucky, you know how much we love the Land Between the Lakes. Whether it’s photographing the LBL, writing about the LBL, or simply enjoying the area every chance we get, you can call us fans of the highest order.
While, admittedly, my favorite things to do in the Land Between the Lakes region are the Nature Center, Elk & Bison Prairie, and 1850’s Homeplace, I have fallen in love with good old fashioned exploring. Driving off the beaten path (known as “The Trace”) and checking out the bays, campgrounds, and “Backcountry” nature are a special kind of joy.

Beautiful Deer Near Sugar Bay
Someone once told me that I seem to be uncommonly lucky when it comes to seeing animals and birds when my camera and I are out and about. I told her that it’s actually more than luck. I have God on my side and He knows that I’m the biggest animal and bird lover in the world. So when I set out with OR without my camera, I have the attitude of, “Okay, God, what are you going to show me today?!”
On this particular day, it was countless bison and elk in the Elk & Bison Prairie and several gorgeous deer near Sugar Bay that literally posed for us forever. Seriously, we left before they did! It got to the point we thought we might be keeping them from something, so we drove on.
After all, it’s their home.
The next time you visit the LBL…. and why not this weekend?!?!… be sure to drive down some of the accessible roads and check out the beautiful bays and the gorgeous scenery.
