Below is a “run down” of special events and activities going on this weekend in the Land Between the Lakes. These events are, of course, in addition to the sights and activities you can enjoy on a regular basis, such as:
- Elk & Bison Prairie – Open daily from dawn until dusk. The Elk & Bison Prairie is a beautiful native grassland habitat that was common in Kentucky more than a century ago. Gorgeous elk and bison roam free within this 700-acre enclosure. In addition to these magnificent animals, we’ve also seen turkeys, eagles, herons, and too many birds to name. This is one extraordinary place. $5 per vehicle
- Golden Pond Planetarium – Located inside the Golden Pond Visitor Center offers full-dome views of the night sky. Organized groups of ten or more may schedule shows by calling 270-924-2020. Daily Planetarium Shows Adults $5; Children $3 [Mon.-Fri. at 10am, and 12, 1, 2, 3, & 4pm | Sat.-Sun. at 10, 11am, and 12, 1, 2, 3, & 4pm]

Special Events This Weekend!
Saturday, April 11 – Sheep Shearing at THE HOMEPLACE
10am-12pm and 1-3pm – Program free with HP admission. It’s time for the Homeplace sheep to have their annual haircut. Visit with sheep shearer Gary Lawson, as he demonstrates and discusses the historic skill of hand shearing sheep.
Wool Work – HOMEPLACE
10am – 4pm – Program free with HP admission.
The work to make fresh new fleeces into yarn for next year’s winter clothing begins today. Lend a hand as the new wool is carefully scoured, teased, and carded.
The Voice: Animal Edition – NATURE STATION
11;30 am – Program free with NS admission.
Join the Nature Station for their spin-off of the hit TV show “The Voice.” Learn about animal communication, as you watch different animal voices battle it out for victory. Come vote for which contestant you think is worthy of the winning title.
Wild Edibles Hike & Tasting – NATURE STATION
2pm – $3 per person. Fee is separate from NS admission. Reservations required because space is limited. Please call 270-924-2020 to reserve your place.
People have enjoyed nature’s bounty for centuries, and here in western Kentucky our forests produce many tasty treats! We’ll sample some foods and drinks made from local wild edibles and go for a one-mile hike to learn how to identify these items as they grow in the wild.

Friday (10th): 10am-12pm and 1-3pm – New! Home School Day – HOMEPLACE
Program free with HP admission. *Ideal for Home Educators. Recommended for ages 5-12.
The Homeplace invites home educators and their families to spend a day on the farm and experience life in 1850s. At the first annual Home School Day, children will have fun doing old time farm chores, as they learn practical math and science skills to use today.
Be sure to spend time in the Gift Shop/Learning Center too. So much to see, so much to learn, and (shhh, don’t tell my husband) so much to buy!
