Owensboro Night Sky: Pretty Impressive, ‘boro!

March 23, 2017 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Owensboro Cool Sky
My family is known for a lot of things – we love to laugh, we’re avid sports fans, we love animals more than we do some people, we’re all about good food, and we (most of us anyway) are MAJOR “sky watchers.” We’re fascinated by clouds, the various shades of blue the sky appears to be at any given time, and whip our cameras and phones out the minute something catches our eye in the great blue yonder.

Many times, as evening rolls in, the skies look like God has been finger-painting and the effect is absolutely breath-taking.

Owensboro Cool Sky
My husband, Michael, and I had just returned home (to Owensboro) a few weeks back and such a sky caught my eye. We were in the car, so the pictures aren’t perfectly clear – they are, however, perfectly beautiful… not because of me or my camera phone, mind you.

They’re perfectly beautiful because of the Artist.

Picture of the Day: Panther Creek Park in Owensboro

Panther Creek Park in Owensboro - Autumn

Panther Creek Park (Owensboro) may not be as large as our wonderful Kentucky State Parks, but it is a relaxing and beautiful place to get away from it all. The walking trails are really something else and, if you take the longest trail, you’ll get all you bargained for.

Trust me!

The pictures here were taken, obviously, in autumn – which is (in my opinion)  when Panther Creek Park is at its finest.

Pictures of the Day: The KWC Purple/White Spring Game

KWC Football Purple vs White Game
KWC Purple/White Spring Game
It may seem odd to see football being played during the opening week of baseball, but college football teams across the country are gearing up and going shoulder pads to shoulder pads.

The pictures here are from the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers‘ Purple/White Spring Game Friday night at Steel Stadium in Owensboro.

Steele Stadium, Owensboro

As you can see, it was a gorgeous night for football. If you live close to a college, I hope you’ll take in as many baseball, football, and basketball games as possible. Not only is it great to support the university and their young athletes… you’ll have a lot of fun in the process. Fact is, you probably won’t want to  miss a single game all season.

If you live near Owensboro, you can keep up with KWC programs with the official website of the KWC Panthers.

Celebration Statue: One of the Beautiful Statues in Owensboro

March 10, 2016 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Celebration Statue Downtown Owensboro

Granted, I’m biased because I live here, but I think Owensboro is an especially beautiful town. Our downtown, in particular, really gives all of us a “hometown proud” kind of feeling.

The beautiful “Celebration” statue is just one of the beautiful statues around our city – and it’s one of my favorites. She dances, eternally, in front of the Riverpark Center (101 Daviess St) and makes me smile ear-to-ear every time I see her.

It’s Finally Here: Owensboro Air Show 2015!

Owensboro Air Show 2014

Pictures from Last Year’s Air Show

I’m so excited about the Owensboro 2015 Air Show that I’m finding it difficult to sit still today. Not only is it difficult to concentrate on anything but the upcoming weekend, the planes flying overhead (yesterday and today) make me just want to stay outside and watch the sky!

Tonight is actually one of my favorite parts of the entire Air Show weekend – the chance to get a close up look at a lot of the aircraft and even meet some of the pilots.  The event takes place a the Owensboro Regional Airport from 4:00 to approximately 8:30 pm. Admission is   $2.00 per person/Kids 10 and under free.

As the sun sets,  a few performers will take to the sky to entertain the crowds. Fireworks will follow. Food and drink vendors will be on site.

Now, why would you want to be anywhere else?!?!

For all the information you’ll need for the upcoming events, check out the Owensboro Air Show website. You’ll also find some pretty amazing videos to watch too.

Whatever you do, make plans to spend a lot of time in Owensboro this weekend. For places to eat, check out our Owensboro Restaurant Reviews.
