Another Broken Egg In Owensboro, Ky

December 13, 2015 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Coffee at Another Broken Egg in Owensboro, Kentucky

Great Cup of Coffee at Another Broken Egg

I’ve written an Another Broken Egg (Owensboro) review before on Genuine Kentucky. Actually, it was two reviews in one because it covered several visits.

Two of my daughters and I decided to have lunch at Another Broken Egg in Owensboro a few weeks ago. It had been a while since we’d visited the restaurant simply because my oldest daughter and I have to eat gluten free and, and there aren’t many gluten free options aside from breakfast food. Yes, the breakfast food is delicious, but it’s not always what we’re in the mood for when it comes to lunch or dinner.

The restaurant is, without a doubt, as beautiful as it gets. The servers are always incredibly friendly – for that matter, anyone you come in contact with is nothing but warm and friendly.

The bacon and sausage are notoriously delicious. It’s hard to describe just how good it is, but you can certainly taste the quality.

{Continued below the bacon…}

Another Broken Egg’s Amazing Bacon

The members of my family who can eat gluten just fine, thank you very much, swear by the potatoes, biscuits, and gravy. The looks on their faces while they’re eating these delicious looking foods tell me that they’re legendary.

The menu isn’t a very large one but it is pretty creative.

{Continued beneath the eggs…}

Eggs, Sausage Gravy, Biscuits, and Potatoes at Another Broken Egg

Breakfast Meal at Another Broken Egg

I have no idea why the potatoes aren’t gluten free, but every time I see/smell them, it’s a fact that breaks my potato-obsessed heart. There must be something in the seasoning, but that’s just a guess.

I even love the dishes at Another Broken Egg. I would have paid for one of their coffee mugs – like everything associated with the restaurant, they’re beautiful.

I would love to just end the review right there – on the highest of notes – but I like to keep it real with my restaurant reviews. The thought of someone taking my “word” for a restaurant weighs heavily in my mind each time I write a review, so know this: I will never be anything but 100 percent “up front” and 110 percent honest.

The first three or four times we visited Another Broken Egg, I would have given the food a solid 10 each and every time. I’d have given the service a solid 10 each time as well. The first two times, the wait was pretty lengthy, but the food was seriously worth it. After one bite, the time spent waiting was completely forgotten.

Same thing with the price. It costs a bit more to have a meal at Another Broken Egg than it does, say, Jimmy John’s, Mi Ranchito, or Cracker Barrel. However, the quiet atmosphere, the beautiful surroundings, and the excellent food justified the extra money.

I would still give the service a solid 10. However, if we’re going to be totally honest here (and we’ve established that we are), the gluten free pancake I got this time wasn’t quite a 10. The texture, taste, and green leaves (I’ll get to them in a minute) made it closer to a 7.

Gluten Free Jumbo Pancake at Another Broken Egg in Owensboro

Gluten Free Pancake

The server offered whipped topping on the pancake and I jumped at the opportunity. It really added a lot to the pancake, which, unfortunately needed the help.

On previous visits, the butter accompanying the pancakes was “whipped butter” that came to the table in little plastic cups – it was fantastic and served as an extra special touch that you’d expect from such a beautiful restaurant.  You can see what I mean if you look at the pictures in my previous Another Broken Egg (Owensboro) review. This time, the butter came, as you can see here, in little tubs.

I know, I know, not a big deal. And yet… I noticed.  So at least it’s a bit of a deal – regardless of the size.

Now… for the mysterious little green flecks.  With my second cut into the pancake, I found a little something or another that was bright green. I’m not an alarmist, so I just put it to the side.  If you look in the picture above, you can see one of the little guys under the surface to the left of the little orange slice at the top. When extracted from the pancake, the green color of the flecks became much more bright and vivid. It was definitely not anything harmful and wasn’t at all bug-related, which was quite a relief.

After close inspection, I figured out that they were probably just strawberry leaves that’d found their way into the batter, I ate the parts of the pancake that weren’t infiltrated with greenery.

If it had been something life-threatening or… well, buggy… I’d have complained. As it was, I simply left the little green bits (about 6 or 7 of them in all) in a nice little heap on top of what remained of the pancake. I figured someone clearing the table would see it and, hopefully ask the people in the kitchen, “What’s up with that???“

I’m not mad. I’m not grossed out. At the time I thought, “If this is the worst thing that happens to me today, I’ll be sure to thank God twice.”

I still feel the same way. Not a big deal.

However….

Okay, here’s the thing, I am an avid cook – heck I even have a food blog. I know that when you’re cooking, if you’re really watching what you’re doing, it’d be almost impossible for something like this to happen. Since that particular lunch, I’ve often wondered about it and still can’t figure out how pieces of what I’m convinced was a fruit leaf found their way into a pancake.

Before you write this off as the most insignificant thing in the world, hang with me a minute. As someone with food allergies and intolerances and as the mother of daughters with food allergies and intolerances, I can’t help but wonder… if this oversight happened, what other oversights might happen?

If someone in the kitchen didn’t see a strawberry leaf (at least it’s what it appeared to be pieces of – it could have been tiny pieces of green paper for all I know) fall into pancake batter… or, worse yet, if they saw it and said, “Eh, maybe no one will notice…” that’s a problem. What else might make it’s way into places it doesn’t belong?

A crumb, for example could cause intense pain for someone with celiac disease or gluten intolerance or even a life threatening allergic reaction to someone with intense food allergies.

What if the little green bits were, indeed, strawberry leaves. Furthermore, what if they’d made their way into a pancake that landed in front of someone who was allergic to strawberries?

My dad had horrific reactions when he came into contact with oranges or anything orange-flavored. My oldest daughter has intense reactions to wheat (as in her throat closes up, making breathing difficult). Mangoes are one of my own downfalls. I’m pretty certain I could just be in the same room with a picture of a mango and have an allergic reaction followed by an asthma attack.

Food allergies do NOT simply involve a sneeze here or a sneeze there. They can be extremely dangerous and, yes, they can be fatal.

As I type these words, I now realize that I definitely should have said something at the time. Even though it would have gone completely against my nature, I should have politely told the manager (or the server) that, while I DID NOT want my money back, I thought they should know that something mysterious had crept into a pancake.

I, jokingly, asked one of my daughters (who’d ordered the exact same pancake) if her pancake came with a salad. It didn’t – so it’s possible that mine was the only one, somehow.

Again – not a big deal. But it could have been.

{Concluded Below…}

Gluten Free Jumbo Pancake with Fruit at Another Broken Egg in Owensboro

Gluten Free Pancake with Fruit

Finally, if you order the regular pancakes or the Jumbo Gluten Free Pancake, you might not want to bother paying extra for fruit. As you can see in the picture above, it’s really not worth it.

Okay. So, given my experience (including the most recent trip), would I still go to Another Broken Egg in Owensboro? Yes, I absolutely would. That statement will tell you just how wonderful all my previous trips were. Restaurants are staffed by humans and not a one of us remaining on earth is perfect.

I make a killer shrimp cocktail sauce – one that I’m quite cocky about. However, one batch may be better than the next and the next may be better than all the ones before. It happens. I’m not going to allow one “not quite as good” trip keep me from a restaurant that’s normally great.

I will say this – I’ve heard a few less than glowing reviews lately from other people around town. I can only hope that, unlike some restaurants, Owensboro’s Another Broken Egg isn’t going downhill.  It’s better than that and I know it.

I have faith that they’ll get everything back to where it was and when that happens, I’ll be the first to say so. Heck, I’ll scream it.

Firehouse Subs Owensboro, Kentucky…. Now Open!

June 11, 2015 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Firehouse Subs: Hero Sub

Firehouse Subs Hero Sub

We have a new restaurant in Owensboro that everyone’s really excited about – Firehouse Subs. I, personally, have never eaten at a Firehouse Subs but everyone who has tells me they’re extra, extra special.

Unfortunately, if you’re like me and my oldest daughter and cannot eat wheat/gluten, you’ll miss out on all the wonderful sandwiches as they don’t have gluten free bread or an “Unwich” option like Jimmy John’s.

HOWEVER, there are quite  a few wonderful salads to choose from. I’ll write about one of these beauties as soon as I have a chance to enjoy one.  The chili is also apparently gluten free and, again, I’ll let you know how awesome it is as soon as I check it out.

{Continued below….}

The Decor is Beautiful!

We already had supper planned last night, but after eating, my husband and I drove over to take a look at Firehouse Subs and grab a sweet tea. When we pulled into the parking lot, we ran into one of our daughters, Stephany, and her husband, Rusty.

Great minds think alike!  They had eaten supper at Firehouse Subs and raved about their sandwiches.  The food shown here are their pictures and they’re’ enough to make your mouth water. She had the Italian Sub and Rusty had the Firehouse Hero Sub – they both said their subs were out of this world delicious.

Steph also told me that their sweet tea was fantastic. A few minutes later, I discovered that she was as right as Kentucky rain.

Michael grabbed a meatball sub to bring home and eat while we watched baseball on tv. The aroma was indescribable – It smelled amazing.

I’m crazy about the decor – the homage to Firemen is extraordinary. Talk about a career that requires bravery! I love the colors, the references to firemen, firehouses, and firetrucks and… possibly most of all, I LOVE the Dalmatian print tabletops.

Brilliant!

I’m Crazy About These Tables and Chairs

At the end of the counter, there are a lot – make that A LOT – of hot sauces for you to choose from. Be as brave as you dare – the sauces are ranked in order from the least hot to the most ridiculously hot. As for me, I’ll stick around the 1’s thank you very much!

Firehouse Subs Hot Sauces

Every Hot Sauce You Could Think Of is Here

Although I’m a chicken when it comes to hot sauces, there were a few brands I’d never seen before and am half-convinced I’ll check them out on my next visit.

Maybe.

I have my eye on the Bee Sting sauce. Sounds amazing!

As for drinks, in addition to some of the best sweet tea I’ve ever had, they also have unsweet tea and just about every conceivable combination of Coke products you can think of. The machine is one of those amazing drink set ups that looks like it was straight off an episode of The Jetsons. Coke, Cherry Coke, Vanilla Coke, Vanilla…. there are over 120+ possible combinations including Firehouse Subs’ own Cherry Lime-Aid and Cherry Lime-Aid Lite.

I’ll have one of those on my next visit… it’ll help put out the fire from the Bee Sting Sauce!

You can check out the extensive Firehouse Subs menu on their website by clicking the link. Learn more about Firehouse Subs by reading the Press Release below… but, most importantly, head over to Frederica Street and try them out as soon as possible.

Press Release:

Firehouse Subs announces the grand opening of its first location in Owensboro on June 9, 2015. The award-winning fast casual restaurant chain is famous for serving premium meats and cheeses steamed piping hot and piled high on a toasted sub roll, which is served “Fully Involved®” with fresh produce and condiments. Founded by former firefighting brothers, the restaurant’s firehouse décor is based on the founding family’s decades of fire and police service, and the new location is decorated with firefighter memorabilia.

The restaurant is located at 5220 Frederica St. and is open Sunday – Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. This is the fourth restaurant for local owners Mickey, Jan, Curry and Katie McKeel, who own restaurants nearby are excited to bring the fire to Owensboro.

Firehouse Subs restaurants boast custom, hand-painted murals that pay tribute to the local community. The Owensboro mural depicts a local firetruck along with local firemen coming to the rescue at Riverside Park. Chief Mural Artist Joe Puskas and his team paint every mural from his studio at Firehouse Subs Headquarters. Since the opening of the first Firehouse Subs in 1994, Puskas has painted more than 890 murals.

Firehouse Subs extinguishes guests’ hunger with medium and large hot specialty subs, including the number one selling Hook & Ladder® sub, served with smoked turkey breast and Virginia honey ham smothered with Monterey Jack cheese. Other top sellers include the Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket,™ loaded with USDA choice beef brisket smoked for at least 16 hours in an authentic Texas smokehouse and topped with melted cheddar cheese and a special combination of sauces, including Sweet Baby Ray’s® Barbecue Sauce. In 2014, Firehouse Subs debuted its Under 500 Calories menu of six subs and four chopped salads. The low-calorie menu is the most significant menu addition in Firehouse Subs’ 20-year history and is available at all Firehouse Subs restaurants nationwide.

Unique to Firehouse Subs is Captain Sorensen’s® Datil Pepper Hot Sauce, named in honor of the founding brothers’ father, Rob Sorensen, a 43-year retired fire captain. The sauce has a spicy-sweet flavor from the datil pepper, a hot pepper similar to habaneros but with a sweeter taste. Firehouse Subs, the largest user of datil peppers in the world, will produce more than 60,000 gallons of its signature hot sauce this year. Additionally, each restaurant offers an assortment of 50+ complimentary hot sauces.

The touch-screen operated Coca-Cola Freestyle® fountain is available in every restaurant and offers 120+ sparkling and still beverage brands with 70+ regular and low-calorie options. Choices include the top selling non-carbonated fountain drink, Cherry Lime-Aid™ and Cherry Lime-Aid™ Light, exclusive original recipes by Firehouse Subs, served with fresh squeezed lime.

In 2005, Firehouse Subs created the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® with the mission of providing funding, life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations. Many first responders make do with older equipment and have limited or no access to needed resources, but Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has given $13 million to hometown heroes in 43 states and Puerto Rico, including more than $154,000 in Kentucky. Local fundraising initiatives include recycling empty five-gallon pickle buckets and selling them to guests for $2 each, a Round Up Program allowing guests to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar and spare change donation canisters.

Owensboro’s Another Broken Egg Cafe (Review)

May 26, 2015 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Another Broken Egg Cafe, Owensboro

Biscuit and Gravy with Eggs and Potatoes

There is so much energy and excitement here in Owensboro, you can practically hear the buzz and feel the electricity. Our downtown/riverfront area, especially, has so much going on that it can be hard to keep track of it all.

One of the beautiful new hotels on the riverfront, Holiday Inn, has something extra special and you don’t have to be an overnight guest to enjoy it. Another Broken Egg Cafe is located inside the Holiday Inn and, I assure you, it’s extraordinary (I was dying to say eggstraordinary, but resisted the temptation – I guess the fact that I just mentioned it means temptation won out in the end, doesn’t it?)

Members of our family have eaten at Another Broken Egg several times and we haven’t just been “pleased” each time, we’ve been “blown away.”

The first time I went to Another Broken Egg was for brunch, so I ordered a Gluten Free Jumbo Pancake and added a side of bacon. The Pancake was absolutely huge, totally living up to its name. My oldest daughter (Emily) also has to eat gluten free, so she ordered the same thing. For $1.99 extra, she added berries to her huge pancake.

Neither one of us could get over just how delicious the pancake was. Served with delicious whipped butter, it made a delicious meal and as for the bacon… it was seriously some of the best bacon I’ve ever eaten. You can tell when you’re eating excellent quality bacon and this was it.

Another Broken Egg Cafe, Owensboro Another Broken Egg Cafe, Owensboro

Jumbo Gluten Free Pancakes

As you can tell from the pictures, the pancakes nearly cover the entire plate – and it was a huge plate, at that. And can I promise you something? My pancake may not win any beauty contests (compared to Em’s decorative version!) but it was out of this world delicious.

Another Broken Egg Cafe has a golden reputation with vegetarians as well as those of us who have to eat gluten free. It’s always refreshing to see a restaurant take everyone’s needs into consideration. Having said that, there is absolutely something for everyone – meat eaters, vegetarians, the gluten free crown, and the gluten gorging crown.

Another Broken Egg is the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner. There are burgers, salads, omelets, and glorious eggs cooked every way you can imagine. I have it on good authority that the omelets make you want to dance in the aisles.

I also have witnessed family members having other worldly experiences when they eat the potatoes.

A quick word about eating gluten free at Another Broken Egg. As their menu states, while they serve “gluten free friendly items,” their kitchen is not a 100 % Gluten Free facility. Speaking from experience, however, I have not had a single issue and I am HIGHLY sensitive. In fact, so is Emily and we both waltzed away happy as clams without a single issue. Well, other than full stomachs.

Whether you have to follow a restrictive diet or aren’t even sure what one would look like (most of my family falls into this category), you’re going to love everything about Another Broken Egg.  Because the food is so incredibly fresh, on Sundays you need to be prepared to wait for possibly up to 30 minutes.  This isn’t fast food we’re talking about here. No one’s taking something out of a freezer and nuking it before hustling it out to your table.

One bite into your meal, this is something you’re going to be especially happy about! I’ll take freshly prepared over frozen and thawed any day of the week… even Sunday.

The entire restaurant (like the building it’s in) is just gorgeous. Will some people consider the prices to be a little higher than what they’re used to paying when they eat out? Sure.

You can get a less expensive meal in some restaurants, but you can’t get a better one any restaurant. When you take into consideration that you pay for an experience as much as the food when you eat out, I’d say Another Broken Egg is more than worth it. It’s absolutely beautiful.

Besides, I personally think the prices are reasonable. Click through the menu below and see for yourself.  You can also find the Owensboro Another Broken Egg Menu online (just click the link).

Continue reading below the gallery of pictures for our most recent visit to Another Broken Egg. Yet again, they hit it out of the ballpark.

Click through the pictures below to have a closer look at the deliciousness.

Our Most Recent Visit to Owensboro’s Another Broken Egg:

When my husband called Monday afternoon and asked if I’d like to go out for supper, I was pretty excited. When he said he wanted to go to Another Broken Egg, I was over the moon excited.

Oddly enough, as much as we love the restaurant, we’d never eaten supper at Another Broken Egg. It has become the GO TO restaurant for our entire family when it comes to breakfast and brunch – but somehow we just hadn’t joined them for supper yet.

Michael was eager to correct this oversight!

Before I get to the actual review, let me just say that both the outside and the inside of the Holiday Inn on Owensboro’s riverfront is beautiful, in a jaw-dropping sort of way. It is just spectacular. Every large and small detail are absolutely perfect. I also love the friendliness of everyone you come across – whether it’s people at the front desk or the staff in the restaurant.

If I had to point any of my readers to one place in Owensboro for lodging, Holiday Inn would be it.

Speaking of perfect details, look at the picture above.  See the columns in the background and the bottom of the column in the foreground?  Gorgeous! The chandeliers, the carpet, candles on the tables… it’s just a beautiful place and one Owensboro can be very proud of.

As you know, for health reasons I have to eat entirely gluten/wheat free, so my options at any restaurant are limited. Fortunately, Another Broken Egg has delicious sausage, bacon, eggs, grits, and even a huge gluten free pancake for me to choose from.

I had eaten their bacon several times before, so I was anxious to sample their sausage. I’d heard from one of my daughters that it was some of the best sausage in the world.

She was right.

The eggs were perfect, as well. They were exactly how I like them and soaking up the runny yolk with the delicious, somewhat sweet sausage was quite the experience!

Michael ordered a pancake, gravy and biscuits, and blackberry grits.  He said he has never had better pancakes or gravy before. High praise, indeed, from someone who has eaten gravy and biscuits and pancakes his entire life.

Blackberry Grits – As Delicious as They are Beautiful

The Blackberry Grits were absolutely delicious. I’d never have thought of putting blackberries on grits – but it’s Heavenly.

City Grits from Another Broken Egg

City Grits

EVEN better than the Blackberry Grits, however, were the City Grits (Creamy southern grits, roasted garlic, onions & smoked Gouda cheese, topped with baked bacon, tomatoes & green onions). Words are going to fail me, here, but  I’ll try to soldier on. One bite in and I knew I was dealing with an instant legend. The flavors were absolutely unreal.

Earlier, in the review above, I mentioned that the food at Another Broken Egg is cooked fresh. I honestly don’t care if I have to wait a little while for my food to be fixed fresh.

Here’s why: When food’s fresh (as opposed to frozen and nuked or cooked in ridiculously huge quantities), you can taste each of the flavors as they are meant to be tasted.  The light smokiness of the Gouda cheese, the grits, the bacon, the tomatoes, and onions – each flavor was beautifully and deliciously distinctive.

I have my lovely and extra friendly server to thank for introducing me to the City Grits. She recommended them – and if she had not, I’d never have had the chance to try them myself. This is why it is so important to hire a great staff – they are your restaurant’s ambassadors!

Note: The City Grits are found on the menu under appetizers or “Apps.”  They’d be great as an appetizer, of course, but I’d treat it as a side. Or main course. Yeah, they’re that amazing.

Another Broken Egg's Gravy and Biscuits

Gravy and Biscuits

In fact, another very friendly server happened to start a conversation with us and highly (very highly!) recommended their meatloaf. If I didn’t have to eat gluten free, I’d have ordered some on the spot! She said the tomato based glaze on top of the meatloaf is out of this world.

Just thinking about it made my mouth water. Fortunately, I had amazing food in front of me, so I didn’t have to long for the meatloaf long. I just returned to the City Grits which are just too delicious to describe.

Each dish at Another Broken Egg isn’t just perfectly delicious, it’s presented in such a beautiful way that just heightens the whole experience.

  2. fresh, delicious food
  3. friendly and very helpful staff

You can’t tell from the picture above, but the rectangular structure is actually an amazing fountain – with water streaming from the top.

Talk about relaxing to watch!  I told Michael I needed him to hook me up with one of those for our yard. He just kept eating his biscuits and gravy….

It’s Always the Right Time for Cracker Barrel in Owensboro Kentucky

December 20, 2014 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Cracker Barrel December 2013

Cracker Barrel in Owensboro: A Favorite Kentucky Restaurant

When it comes to writing Kentucky restaurant reviews, I tend to often write about restaurants I’ve visited for the first time – or a restaurant that has a “new” menu item or special.

Disclaimer: Many restaurant reviews on Genuine Kentucky were done BEFORE I had to stop eating gluten and wheat. I no longer eat at Cracker Barrel because they do not consider ANY of their meats gluten-free. Unlike the vast majority of restaurants, where you can order meat and consider it to be  gluten-free, Cracker Barrel simply states that none of their meats can be considered to be safe for us to eat because they cook all of their meats in the same place. If you have to eat gluten-free, I don’t recommend Cracker Barrel. Even if you’re a vegetarian, in my opinion, you’d be better off going to a restaurant more dedicated to serving the needs of all of their guests.

The problem with that is that sometimes a good, old-fashioned, consistently favorite restaurant can get lost in the commotion.

Take the Cracker Barrel in Owensboro, Kentucky for example. I eat at this particular restaurant possibly more often than any other – with the exceptions of Wasabi Express and Mi Ranchito, which are the only ones I frequent as often as CB.

Old favorites might not get the fanfare that new ones get, but where in the world would we be without them?!

Cracker Barrel Breakfast Owensboro, Ky

Cracker Barrels isn’t just a chain of restaurants in the South, it’s a Southern institution, and one that we’re incredibly proud of.  The menu is diverse – more so than the majority of restaurants.  Think about it, not only can you order amazing breakfasts any time of the day or night, you can have your choice of a HUGE variety of meats and vegetables.

  • catfish
  • meatloaf
  • steak
  • country fried chicken
  • shrimp
  • ham
  • chicken and dumplings
  • grilled chicken strips
  • green beans
  • mashed potatoes
  • gravy
  • potato casserole
  • beef stew
  • carrots
  • coleslaw
  • salad
  • fried okra
  • corn
  • cornbread
  • biscuits

The list goes on and on and includes “seasonal menu items” that are always available.  On a recent trip to Cracker Barrel, my husband ordered a big beautiful breakfast (shown above).  Our oldest daughter Emily and him order from the breakfast menu most of the time. Who can blame them, you get A LOT of food for a great price, and the food is always exceptionally delicious.  My favorites are the fried catfish, spicy grilled catfish (Heavenly!), shrimp, meatloaf, and chicken and dumplings.  Every now and then I HAVE to have a plate of pancakes with berries and whipped topping though.

One look at the picture below and you can see why.

Blueberry Pancakes Cracker Barrel

Obviously, Cracker Barrel is an outstanding place to have breakfast or supper, but have you ever thought about Cracker Barrel for lunch? The prices are hard to beat and the food is as good as you’ll find anywhere.  The fried catfish sandwich is wonderful and I highly recommend the Meatloaf Sandwich, the Grilled Chicken Salad and BLT Salad.

To make a long story short, there isn’t a bad food item on the entire menu.  The next time you’re trying to decide where to eat breakfast, lunch, or supper, head to Cracker Barrel and remind yourself what a great restaurant experience should be like.  I applaud (loudly applaud) the fact that, even in this irritable economy, Cracker Barrel’s prices remain VERY fair. You get more than you pay for at Cracker Barrel, and that can’t be said of a lot of restaurants.

It’s been my experience that the servers and workers at Cracker Barrels are uncommonly friendly. I think it’s a requirement or something.  🙂

See Cracker Barrel’s website for the menu and to find a restaurant/store near you.

Owensboro Restaurants: Mi Ranchito is Delicious for Lunch or Dinner

August 6, 2014 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Mi Ranchito Salsa and Chips
I was enjoying lunch in a new favorite Owensboro restaurant, Mi Ranchito, a few days ago when it hit me… I haven’t written about this delicious Authentic Mexican Restaurant on Genuine Kentucky yet!

Where has my brain been?!?! Never mind. I know the answer. Baseball.  To be more precise – St. Louis Cardinals baseball. Yes, I’m obsessed and No, I’ll never change.

Something else I’m obsessed with is good, consistent, affordable restaurants. I love a restaurant that I pretty much know will be great each and every time I visit. If I order a favorite menu item for lunch, I want it to be just as delicious as it was the last time I ordered it.

With Mi Ranchito, you get the consistency, the delicious food, and (as a bonus) the prices are incredibly reasonable.  What’s more, their sweet tea is out of this world.

Mi Ranchito Owensboro Grilled Chicken Taco and Rice
Mi Ranchito has become one of our absolute favorite restaurants to eat lunch in Owensboro. I always get the Hard Shell Grilled Chicken Taco with Lettuce and Cheese and a side of rice.  I say it so often, it’s a wonder I don’t say the words in my sleep. In addition to having possibly the best salsa I’ve ever gotten at  an authentic Mexican restaurant, their tacos are fantastic and the rice is… again.. maybe the best you’ll ever eat.

I also order grilled chicken when I eat at Mi Ranchito for lunch.  What can I say, their grilled chicken is delicious. Plus, when you have to eat gluten free (for health reasons), you find the foods that don’t cause you any pain or other ugly side effects and you stick to them like your very life depends on it.

Mi Ranchito is located at 2425 W Parrish Ave. – in an old Subway location.  Whether you want lunch, dinner, dine-in, or carry-out… I know you’ll love this food as much as I do.
