Kentucky Pictures of the Day Celebrate the First Day of Spring

March 20, 2017 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Spring Trees at Jack C Fisher Park - Owensboro, Kentucky
Jack C. Fisher Park, Owensboro
Spring is such an exciting time of year, isn’t it? I mean, I love winter (and I even love snow… like A LOT), but spring is always such a beautiful and exciting season. Trees are budding, birds are singing, UK Basketball is in the post season, baseball is back, bedding plants and seeds are begging to be bought, and you can finally get outside and play again. I don’t know about you, but I am so so so so so SO ready for each one!

A lot of times it seems like Genuine Kentucky has to nap during the winter. Sure, I still add pictures and update as much as possible, but it’s nothing compared to the 24/7 excitement buzzing around the rest of the year.

What better way to celebrate the first day of Spring than with some pictures of Kentucky all dressed up for the season?!

Spring Trees
Beautiful Buds and Blooms
As you could imagine, tree huggers like me keep a close eye on the trees in the spring. Okay, pretty much year round… but especially in the spring. After all, like Genuine Kentucky, they’re awaking from their nap too!

“Springtime is the land awakening. The March winds are the morning yawn!” – Lewis Grizzard

I hope you’ll get out there and enjoy as much of Kentucky as you possibly can – not just this spring but every day thereafter. We’re truly blessed with an amazingly beautiful state and should see as much of it as possible.

Pictures of the Day Celebrating One Week Till Autumn!

September 16, 2015 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Owensboro Autumn Picture

Autumn in Kentucky… Beautiful, In Spite of the Sneezing

I hate to brag, but I have epic allergies. There are times I get into sneezing jags and, literally, lose count of the ACHOOs. Ragweed is one of my worthiest opponents. As an enemy, he’s nearly unmatched.

And yet…. I cannot get enough of this time of year. It’s exactly a week until Autumn officially arrives and I’m in an absolute state of bliss – even with all the sneezing.

As you may have noticed, the rotating pictures at the top have moved from Summer to Autumn.  I’ll be adding more to the rotation (see what I did there… even in a Benadryl fog, I still have it), so be sure to watch for more changing leaves, pumpkins, and maybe even a ghost or two.

Probably not real ones.

Probably.

Even though Summer has all but moved on, be sure to keep visiting all of Kentucky’s State Parks, the Land Between the Lakes Recreational Area, Mammoth Cave, Kentucky Lake, Lake Barkley, and on and on. Each of these places are as beautiful in the fall and winter as they are the spring and summer.

In fact, many times you’ll see more wildlife simply because the trees will hide them less during late autumn and winter.  You’ll also experience smaller crowds and less traffic during these two seasons… just another reason I love them as much as I do.

Welcome to Kentucky: Now This is Always a Welcome Sight…

March 5, 2015 by Joi Sigers 2 Comments

Welcome to Kentucky Sign

No matter where we’ve been, one of my favorite sights is a Welcome to Kentucky sign that greets us when we get back home. Unbridled Spirit and Unmistakable Beauty… that’s the Kentucky we all know and love.

While cats and coffee are a given (just like her mom), you really never know what the girl’s going to get into…

Pictures of the Day: Kentucky Really Shows off In the Spring!

April 19, 2014 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Apple and Pear Trees with Bees

“No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.”  – Proverb

Yesterday was the sort of day we nature lovers have been waiting for. A day so beautiful it’s all but impossible to stay indoors. Naturally, this tree-hugger had to grab her camera and take off for the yard.

I left our inside cat (Alexa) sleeping and snoring on the couch while our outside cat (Hannah) and I quoted from Robin Hood, “To the trees!”

Sweet Hannah

Hannah is, without a doubt, one of the sweetest cats in the world.  She’s syrup-y sweet and I’m not convinced a sweeter-natured being has ever lived. She’s never happier than when we’re outside – in her element – with her. We kid ourselves, thinking that we’re entertaining her, but I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around.

We did a lot of traipsing around the yard yesterday, taking pictures of just about everything along the way.

Dandelion

“The front door to springtime is a photographer’s best friend.” – Terri Guillemets

After an especially long, cold winter Hannah and I both decided that the dandelions seemed lovelier than ever.

Hannah Loving Everything about Spring

“Every spring is the only spring – a perpetual astonishment.”  – Ellis Peters

There were countless bees buzzing around our pear and apple trees, and as long as I lurked around taking pictures, it’s a wonder they didn’t use me for target practice.

I tried to capture them in their crazy little frenzy but they just don’t show up that well in the pictures.

Spring Tree with Bees

“The day the Lord created hope was probably the same day he created Spring.” – Bern Williams

One thing that does show up is just how Heavenly this Spring day was and Hannah and I are looking forward to a lot more…. with or without the bees.

Spring Trees

One final thought… a pet makes absolutely everything in the world better.

Picture of the Day: Sunset on Beautiful Rough River Lake

July 12, 2013 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Sunset on Rough River Lake

Breathtaking. That was the word that kept running around in my brain as I watched (and photographed) the sunset last summer on beautiful Rough River Lake.  We were on a boat tour at Rough River Dam State Resort Park as part of the lodge’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.  Each time I put the camera in my lap, I’d see something else just begging to have its picture taken!  It was a fun, beautiful, peaceful, and memorable boat tour and if you ever get a chance to take one of the Lady of the Lake tours at Rough River, jump on the opportunity like a cat on catnip.

For more pictures of Rough River Lake and Rough River Dam State Park from the 50th Anniversary Celebration, click the link.
