Beef O’ Brady’s in Owensboro, Kentucky

September 10, 2012 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Beef 'O' Brady's Grilled Shrimp Salad

We ate at one of our favorite Owensboro restaurants a few nights ago, Beef ‘O’ Brady’s.  Each time I go, I think, “I don’t eat here nearly often enough!”  It’s clear on the other side of town – but is it ever worth it! They’ve recently added on to the restaurant and the expansion has provided a lot more seating… yet another reason to go more often.

Unlike a few restaurants who’ve gotten on my “bad” side lately, Beef’s seems to always, always, always be on top of their game. The food is always outstanding, the servers (and host/hostesses) are always uncommonly friendly and helpful and the entire environment is just a lot of fun.

I ordered the beautiful salad you see, above: The Grilled Shrimp Salad.  Heavenly!  It comes with an amazing Poblano dressing – but you could substitute another dressing if you wanted to. Personally, I wouldn’t even think of it.  Naturally, with the name Poblano Dressing, you can expect a little heat.  However, it’s not too much heat – I’m the biggest baby in the world when it comes to hot and spicy food and even I loved this dressing.  It’s just ridiculously delicious.  The shrimp is seasoned beautifully, the vegetables are crisp and fresh, and you get A LOT of salad for the money.  It’s more than filling.

Beef 'O' Brady's Chicken Basket

Michael ordered a Chicken Basket and made sure to get Beef’s AMAZING coleslaw.  If it’s not the best coleslaw in the world (and it just might be), it’s in the top 3 (with Willow Pond’s and KFC’s keeping it company.).  Beef’s coleslaw has pineapple in it which, somehow, just kicks it up into a stratosphere normally reserved for chocolate. He also chose Onion Rings as one of his sides because the dear boy knows I’m obsessed.  These are currently my favorite onion rings in the world.  This is how onion rings are supposed to taste – and, as far as this fanatic is concerned, their onion rings put the “O!’ in  Beef ‘O’ Brady’s!

My husband ordered us a plate of dessert which proved to be outstanding: The platter contained a slice of each:

  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Explosion
  • Caramel Apple Bar
  • Chocolate Eruption Bar

Staying true to who I am, I went for the Chocolate Eruption Bar first.  HEAVENLY. So delectably rich and chocolate-y – I’m pretty sure I let out the sort of sigh we chocoholics are famous for. I then moved on to the Chocolate Peanut Butter Explosion (after all, I detected chocolate – which means I must have it). This dessert is outstanding as well, the chocolate flavor is as wonderful as you’d hope for, then you get that unmistakable and wonderful flavor of the peanut butter in the frosting.

Man ‘O’ man, they’re both as wonderful as you’d expect.

In an effort not to be rude, I licked off my chocolate-covered fork and went for the Caramel Apple Bar (I didn’t want to make her feel left out, you know). The entire world came to a stop when I took a bite. My eyes popped out of my head and I looked at my husband as though he’d kicked me under the table.

What right does a dessert without a trace of chocolate have being so jaw-dropping delicious?! Who does she think she is?!  Seriously, I’m still shaking my head in disbelief – she more than held her own with the big boys. She was every bit as delicious and every bit as memorable. I’m not sure what kind of mojo she has, but I can’t wait to meet her again!

Beef 'O' Brady's Dessert Plate

Just look at the drizzled chocolate and caramel… and the whipped topping on top of the AMAZING Caramel Apple Pie.  Funny thing is, they each taste even better than they look. Whatever you do, promise me you’ll try the Caramel Apple Pie (either by itself or in this beautiful trio).  It’ll blow your mind and have your taste buds buzzing for weeks.

One of my daughters (Emily) and I were talking a few days ago about our favorite restaurants in town (Owensboro).  I told her how one had recently ticked me off so bad I had no intentions of returning and she shared that a server at another  restaurant (ironically famous in town for servers who pull this trick) had recently “adjusted ” her tip from 5$ to 8$.  The 5 was already over-tipping, but the server (who apparently wasn’t even good!) helped herself to 3 extra dollars. Em wasn’t concerned about the 3$ but she said she did feel taken advantage of and wasn’t in a hurry to go back.

She said that this particular restaurant actually has a reputation in town for this sort of thing! If you want to eat wings and watch sports – I’d head to Beef ‘O’ Brady’s!

Beef’s is one of the few restaurants in town that you never hear anything bad about. I honestly can’t even imagine running into anyone who’d have anything bad to say about Beef’s.  Locals love it and for a very good reason: They’re one of the best restaurants in town for lunch OR dinner.  Fun environment, outstanding servers, and food that’s out of this world.

Read more about Beef ‘O’ Brady’s on their website – at the moment, they even have a deal where you can print out a coupon to save $5 on a $25 order!

Olive Garden in Owensboro Kentucky: Delicious!

November 15, 2011 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Olive Garden's Chicken Gnocchi Soup

Olive Garden’s Chicken Gnocchi Soup

If you’re wondering where you should eat lunch in Owensboro, I have two words for you: Olive Garden. As I’ve mentioned on the Kentucky blog many times, my oldest daughter Emily and I eat lunch out each and every Friday.  Sometimes my husband/her dad is able to get off work long enough to join us and sometimes her sisters make it.  However, the one constant is this: Em and I do not miss Friday lunch out…. or our trip to Target and Starbucks afterward.

We kind of have a system we’ve developed over the years.  We’ll have lunch at Olive Garden one week, then branch out to a new restaurant the next Friday. Then we’ll return to Olive Garden the next… etc. If it weren’t for loving variety AND wanting to do a lot of Where to Eat in Owensboro Kentucky reviews, I can’t promise that we wouldn’t just head to Olive Garden each and every Friday.

I have to tell you, Owensboro’s Olive Garden may well be the best Olive Garden in the country.  I certainly haven’t eaten at all of their locations, so I can’t say with all certainty that they’re the best, however, our Olive Garden is flawlessly beautiful and beautifully flawless… so imagining another one beating them is pretty unreasonable.

How do you beat flawless?

So what do I love so much about Olive Garden at lunchtime?  To put it simply: They hit all the marks.

Olive Garden's Zupa Soup

Olive Garden’s Zupa Soup

Below are the things I want and expect from a restaurant at lunchtime:

  • Cleanliness
  • Friendly host or hostess who seem genuinely glad to see you
  • Friendly and helpful servers who seem genuinely glad to have you at their table
  • UN FLAT diet coke, cokes, etc.
  • Great tea
  • Wonderful bread
  • Wonderful salad
  • Plenty of choices
  • Healthy choices
  • Reasonable prices – you get what (or more than what) you paid for
  • Speed – who wants to spend precious time waiting?

Owensboro’s Olive Garden is all over each of these – as I said, They hit all the marks. The lunch menu is delicious, healthy, and unbelievably filling.  When we have lunch at Olive Garden, we’re always completely full until supper.  Their Soup, Salad, and Bread sticks lunch special is “all you can eat,” and so ridiculously delicious you will, indeed, eat all you can…. and then some.  Each of the soups are outstanding, but I’m so addicted to the Chicken and Gnocchi that I get it each time. You have no idea how much I’d love a bowl right now as I’m typing these words!

In addition to the best soups imaginable, delicious bread sticks, and my favorite salad in town, Olive Garden also has ridiculously beautiful and delicious appetizers (Could I interest you in Smoked Mozzarella Fonduta maybe???), pastas, flat breads, paninis (grilled sandwiches) and more.  There’s a Grilled Steak and Porotbello Panini with my name all over it. The paninis are served with your choice from their exceptional soups and Heavenly salad.

We have many wonderful places to eat lunch here in Owensboro, but Olive Garden sets the bar.  I have never had a hostess or host that wasn’t genuinely warm and friendly and I’ve never had a server who was less than a 10.  Not even a 9 -1/2!They ooze class and friendliness and represent the restaurant the way a restaurant would want to be represented.

The food is always impeccable, flawless in every conceivable way.

As you know, I take my Kentucky Restaurant Reviews and restaurant recommendations SERIOUSLY.  I would hate (with every fiber in my being) to steer someone in a direction that could prove to be a bad experience for them.  That’s what I love so much about places like Olive Garden – I know, beyond a shadow of doubt, that they’ll never let me or my beloved readers down.  When it comes to restaurants, they don’t just set the bar, they set it high.

See Olive Garden’s awesome lunch menu.

EDIT 4/6/2015: The same daughter I mentioned above (Emily) and I have BOTH had to start eating gluten/wheat free due to health reasons. You’ll see less Olive Garden lunch reviews and pictures on the blog now simply because we can no longer eat the soups we were so addicted to! Suffice to say, however, that Olive Garden is still one of the absolute best restaurants in Owensboro for lunch or dinner. Even if you, too, have to eat gluten free, they do have a gluten free pasta now.

Unfortunately, their lunch menu isn’t very gluten free friendly… yet. I’m hoping they’ll take care of this really soon and, when they do, I’ll come back here and edit my edit!

Owensboro’s Olive Garden is located at 5204 Frederica Street.

Where to Eat in Owensboro, Kentucky

Wasabi Express in Owensboro
We’re famous (oftentimes, it seems the world over) for the pride of Owensboro, Kentucky – Moonlite Barbecue. And for good reason! Moonlite does barbecue as well as barbecue can be done. The sides are extraordinary, too. I don’t think I could possibly love the potato salad any more than I do.

However, there are A LOT of wonderful places to eat in Owensboro, Kentucky that are just as good as Moonlite Barbecue. In fact, we have several barbecue restaurants that’ll lead to many licked fingers and very happy faces. Below is a list of the best places to eat in Owensboro, Kentucky. I’ve linked each to the appropriate website so you can check out the menu, the hours of operation, and (of course) the directions.

Naturally, we also have plenty of McDonald’s restaurants, Burger Kings, Wendy’s, Dairy Queens, Taco Bells, Waffle Houses, and KFC’s. Check each restaurant’s website for the locations of each in Owensboro. A few words of advice from a local: The best KFC is the one on Frederica (it’s excellent) and the best Taco Bell is on Parrish (always clean and neat as a pin). Each of our Wendy’s, Waffle Houses, Ritzy’s, Dairy Queens, McDonald’s, and Burger Kings are great.
