April is Homeschooler’s Month in the Land Between the Lakes

Bobcat, The Nature Station LBL Ky

Gorgeous Bobcat at The Nature Station, Land Between the Lakes

As someone who homeschooled her three beautiful daughters all the way from Kindergarten through 12th Grade, I think the following press release is too cool.  April is Homeschooler’s Month in the Land Between the Lakes and I hope every homeschooler in the area will show their appreciation by visiting this EXTRA special place more than once.

While each spot in the area is FUN (with a capital F, U, and N!) for the entire family, it’s FUN that can be turned into learning experiences.  The learning opportunities cover history (Homeplace), animals, birds, and botany (Nature Station and Elk & Bison Prairie), and even astronomy (Planetarium).

Each location is also a golden opportunity to learn more about Kentucky. You honestly could spend an entire weekend in the Land Between the Lakes and still not experience ALL there is to experience and learn.

Again, please go and show your appreciation for having an entire month in the homeschooling family’s honor! – Joi (“Joy“)

The following event has passed, but you can find up-to-the-minute Kentucky Events on our Events Page. Also, check out some of the best things to do in Kentucky… most importantly, just get out there and enjoy our beautiful state!

From the Land Between the Lakes:

April is Homeschooler’s Month across Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area. We invite homeschooling families to use Land Between The Lakes as their outdoor classroom this spring. Pick up an Explorers Passport at Homeplace, Nature Station, or Golden Pond Planetarium. Take the passport to each attraction and complete activities to earn an official Explorer Patch and Certificate.

Staff-led programs for homeschoolers will be offered at 1pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Nature Station and at 1pm on Wednesdays at the Homeplace. Be sure to attend one of our daily Planetarium shows offered on the hour between 10am and 4pm.

Throughout the month, take advantage of unique learning opportunities, hands-on exploration activities, and take-home materials available at Nature Station, Homeplace, and Golden Pond Planetarium. Be sure to come to Homeschooler’s Day at the Homeplace on Friday, April 10, Homeschooler’s Day at Nature Station on Friday, April 24, and Astronomy Day at the Planetarium on Saturday, April 25.

Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area manages more than 170,000 acres in western Kentucky and Tennessee as part of the U.S. Forest Service and the Department of Agriculture’s public lands program. Land Between The Lakes offers outdoor recreation, lake access, land management, and environmental education to over 1.4 million visitors annually. The Friends of Land Between The Lakes works in partnership with the Forest Service providing program services, funds development, and volunteer support.
