Carter Caves Wildflower Pilgrimage Weekend is April 17-19

April 7, 2015 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Deer at Carter Caves State Resort Park
I associate certain things with Kentucky’s different state parks – people, sights, food, animals, etc that I identify with each beautiful park. One of the things I think of when I hear the words Carter Caves State Resort Park is the picture above. It’s actually one of my favorite photographs that I’ve ever taken. The fact that this beautiful deer showed up, so poignantly, beside the “Prevent Forest Fires” sign could be considered a major stroke of luck.

The fact that she stayed in place, posing, for several minutes (not even flinching when I dropped my camera), reminded me that God is always with me… even when I’m super clumsy.

In addition to this picture, I also think of the gorgeous scenery at Carter Caves. Absolutely stunning.

The following event has passed, but you can find up-to-the-minute Kentucky Events on our Events Page. Also, check out some of the best things to do in Kentucky… most importantly, just get out there and enjoy our beautiful state!

Beautiful Carter Caves State Resort Park will host its Wildflower Pilgrimage Weekend April 17-19, 2015.

I can only imagine the beautiful show Carter Caves (with its blooms of many shapes and colors decorating the forest floor) puts on each Spring!

From the Kentucky State Parks: Guests can experience the beauty of the area during wildflower and wildlife walks, van tours and canoe trips throughout the weekend.

Admission to field trips and workshops is $15 for adults and $10 for children (ages 6-12). Guests will sign up for programs at the park Friday night or Saturday morning. Evening programs will also be scheduled. Registration is required since space is limited.

There will be trips focusing on wildflowers, birds, ferns and tree identification, a canoe trip on Smoky Lake and more. Whether you are an experienced wildflower enthusiast, a beginner bloomer or just someone who enjoys being in the woods, this is the perfect weekend to get outside and experience the natural beauty of spring.

For a detailed agenda, click here.

An overnight package including two nights’ lodging and registration for two is $169.95 (plus tax).  The campground also will be open. Call the park at 606-286-4411 to register.

Carter Caves State Resort Park is located at 344 Caveland Drive in Olive Hill, Kentucky. The park has a lodge with a restaurant, cottages and campground. Besides cave tours, activities include hiking, horseback riding, swimming, boating and fishing.

Directions: From Interstate 64, Exit 161, take U.S. 60 east. Go approximately 2 miles and turn left on KY 182 north. The park entrance is 3 miles from the left turn onto KY 182 north.

Spring Into Fun at Kentucky State Parks!

April 3, 2012 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Udderly Delicious Dairy Desserts, Kenlake Marina on Kentucky Lake

Udderly Delicious Dairy Desserts – Kenlake State Resort Park’s Marina. You’ve never tasted better ice cream. And the view? Breathtaking!

This event has passed, but there’s always something going on at Kentucky’s State Parks! Check our Kentucky Events page for up to the minute events and news. Also, check out our ever-growing Things to Do in Kentucky page!

Spring has sprung, lovely readers, and I couldn’t be more excited.  The amazing Kentucky Wildcats won the National Championship, Murray State had a remarkable season, and the University of Louisville caught everyone by surprise with their tenacity.  Even better, Coach Pitino showed the world what graciousness in defeat looks like. Frankly, I thought he wore it beautifully and I became an even bigger fan than I was before.  Tomorrow, baseball (another addiction of mine!) returns and all seems right with the world.

I’m also excited about all of the opportunities for fun in the sun at our beautiful Kentucky State Parks.

The Kentucky State Park resorts have lodges, cottages and restaurants, as well as recreational opportunities for families. These include trails, playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, fishing and wildlife viewing. Spring break is a great time to get outside and explore some of the natural beauty at these parks. All state park campgrounds will open in April.

Listed below are some of the special offers and programs in March and April. (Offers based on availability, for individual travel only. Not to be combined with any other discounts or offers.
