Special Lodge Rates at Kentucky State Parks in Flood Areas

July 8, 2016 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park's Lodge

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park’s Lodge: Like Something Out of a Fairy Tale

Rain, rain, go away! I’m one of those people who normally loves rain, but this is ridiculous. People without power, destruction, and just mayhem in general… nothing fun about any of that. The Kentucky State Parks are offering a rainbow at the end of the storm with reduced rates at three of their beautiful parks.

The details are below. Stay safe, Kentucky, and remember brighter days are just ahead!

Kentucky State Parks are offering a special lodging rate at three resort parks for people impacted by recent flooding in western Kentucky.

Lodge rooms will be offered at Lake Barkley this weekend and next weekend (July 15-16-17) at $49.95 a night for residents of Christian, Trigg and Todd counties. Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park and Kenlake State Resort Park have the same offer good on weekdays, Sunday through Thursday night of next week. Guests will be asked to show their driver’s license at check in.

Lake Barkley State Resort Park is the largest state resort park in Kentucky and features a lodge, cottages, restaurant, a seasonal campground, 18-hole golf course, fitness center with indoor pool, marina, fishing, tennis courts, hiking trails, gift shop, and recreational and nature programming.  Call Lake Barkley at 270-924-1131.

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park near Dawson Springs has a restaurant, 18-hole golf course, hiking trails, beach, swimming pool, fishing, basketball, tennis and campground. Call Pennyrile Forest at 270-797-3421.

Kenlake State Resort Park is located minutes away from the Land between the Lakes, a 170,000-acre nature lover’s paradise and environmental education area. Kenlake offers lodging, cottages, campground and restaurant. Call Kenlake at 270-474-2211.

Review: The Condos at Green Turtle Bay in Grand Rivers, KY

April 11, 2013 by Mike Leave a Comment

Green Turtle Bay Condo

I recently had the great fortune to stay in one of the condos at Green Turtle Bay Resort in Grand Rivers, Ky.

3 friends and I went on a little mid-week golf vacation. We wanted to stay and play in one area, so we chose one of my favorite locations on the planet – the Kentucky Lake / Lake Barkley area.

The first place, really, the only place we even considered staying was Green Turtle Bay.

Think about it. 4 big guys, golf bag, golf clubs, suitcases. Ain’t no way we could cram into two, much less, one hotel room or suite.

But we could fir easily into a 2 bedroom house and that’s basically what the condo was … a big, nice, ultra clean, ultra nice, ultra well equipped house.

Anything less and we’d never left that vacation as friends. Heck, we’d probably not even been talking to one another.

The condo was:

  • Sparkling clean
  • Spacious
  • Ultra modern
  • Comfortable
  • Relaxing

Basically, it was a smile generator!

I got there first, checked us in and ran up to our condo to get some pics, because I knew that if I waited until my friends got there and dropped their bags in the middle of the floor, I’d never be able to show you how nice this thing was.

Remember, this is a condo. It’s not a hotel with folks running in and out of their rooms slamming their doors, leaving their TVs up loud when they leave, banging on the walls and all those other horrible things that happen to you in hotels.

None of that happened to us in out super clean, super nice, super well equipped condo. In fact, my three friends all thanked me multiple times for being the first one to find this little jewel of a place many, many moons ago.

Green Turtle Bay Condo

When you first walk in, you’ll notice the bright, beautiful, tastefully done colors. Then you see an enormous flat screen TV and a great looking fireplace. Then you’ll see the comfortable furniture and see the carpet is so clean that you’ll wonder if you’re the first one’s to ever stay in this particular condo.

Then you’ll notice that not only is it clean, it’s immaculate! There’s not a speck of dust on the blinds. Heck, there’s not a hint of dust on the ceiling fan way up there in the vaulted ceiling! And the arched windows bring in beautiful light all day, but especially in the early mornings and early evenings.

Green Turtle Bay Condo

Turning the corner you’ll come to the kitchen and see a stainless steel fridge and dishwasher. I mean, really, who has fixtures like this, appliances like this, in a rental?!

Green Turtle Bay Condo

And look at how sparkling clean everything is. Shiny! Not even a water spot in the sink. Way cleaner than any hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. Clean smelling, fresh smelling.

It was almost too bad we had no plans to cook or eat in there. C’mon on … 4 guys on a golf vacation? Not a chance, baby! We’re eating every meal out. Breakfast and lunches were at Dockers Bayside Grille and dinners were at the Commonwealth Yacht Club. Both are right there on the property, so it was easy and dang fine food.

The omelets and biscuits and gravy for breakfast were beyond big and beyond good. The coffee was fresh and piping hot!

The Turtle Burgers we had for lunch we fine eatin’ and the fries and onion rings were classics.

At night, we’d head over to the Commonwealth Yacht Club for some great steaks, grilled Mahi tuna and pastas. All of them were 5 stars and the service was just as spectacular.

Then it was back to the condo and hit the back deck, put our feet up on the railings and tell lies about our golf games as the water lulled us into the nicest state of relaxation you can find in the Land Between the Lakes area.

Green Turtle Bay Condo

Just so you can see how amazingly clean and shiny everything was, I’ve included some pics of the bathrooms that were fresh smelling and had plenty of towels. Could not ask for more.

And look at the bedrooms, especially the Master bedroom upstairs. I mean, really, who has a staircase like this in a rental?! And look at the Master bedroom and the enormous bed in there, with a good size flatscreen TV on the wall. And the view from up there just makes you feel like a King.

Green Turtle Bay Condo Bedroom

Do yourself, your family and your friends a favor and don’t cram them into a hotel room this year. Head over to Green Turtle Bay Resort in Grand Rivers, get yourself and condo and create memories that will last long after you’ve gone back home.

Really. Do you wanna argue over the one TV in a hotel room? Do you wanna fight over not having enough towels? Do you wanna listen to the neighbor watch his TV all night? Do you wanna get woke up at 6 am as someone slams their door 4 or 5 times as they try to get packed up and leave?

No?! Me neither. That’s why we go to Green Turtle Bay.

Kentucky Photo Galleries Have Been Updated and Upgraded

August 9, 2012 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Rough River Dam State Resort Park Executive Cottage

First of all, I have added pictures to the following photo albums:

  • Rough River Dam State Resort Park – I’ve had quite a few requests for pictures inside the cottages at Rough River Dam State Resort Park. Since I, personally, have never been inside one of these cottages. I’m a lodge kind of gal – closer to the restaurant.  Closer to the restaurant means closer to the fried catfish. It’s all about priorities and, more times than not, my priorities are breaded and fried. So I didn’t have any pictures to share.  Thankfully, Geoff Roberts took some for us and e-mailed them to my husband. Thanks Geoff! The picture, shown above, is from one of the park’s executive cottages. Gorgeous! I’ve added the other pictures to the Rough River Dam State Resort Park photo album.  I also added a few other pictures to the album – a hiking trail right beside the cottages, a few more pictures of Rough River Lake, and a couple of pictures one of my daughters took on a trip she and her new husband took to Rough River.
  • I also added more pictures to the Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park photo album.  The new pictures include pictures of the beautiful lodge swimming pool, Kentucky Lake, Kentucky Dam Marina, the patio behind the lodge (a place  me and Michael have found to be one of the most peaceful spots in the entire state), and pictures from the lodge restaurant, Harbor Lights. When you check out the pictures, know this: The pies were even more delicious than they look.
  • I added more pictures to the Grand Rivers, Kentucky picture gallery. I added a picture of Dockers Bayside Grill’s Turtle Burger that has my mouth officially watering. They grill the onions on their Turtle Burger and you’d be amazed at the difference it makes. So good. I’ll be adding more pictures to this particular page throughout the day…. after I have lunch. The Turtle Burger has convinced my stomach that it’s time to eat!

I’m also in the process of re-doing each of the photo album pages, making the thumbnails bigger, adding a little more information.. that sort of thing.

Thanks again, Geoff, for the help with the pictures. I know you’re a busy guy – especially this time of year!

Wildwood Inn Tropical Dome and Theme Suites In Florence, Kentucky

July 11, 2012 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Wildwood Inn Kentucky Cave Room
Wildwood Inn’s Kentucky Cave Room!

Looking for a very special place to stay in Kentucky? Wildwood Inn will blow you away.

I’m a USA Today fanatic and have been for more years than I care to think about, let alone count. In the June 29 (2012) edition, the word Kentucky jumped off the page at me.Ã?  Florence, Kentucky landed in the #1 position on the Travel Page for one of USA Today’s always entertaining 10 Great lists.Ã?  This particular list was called 10 Great Places for a Quirky Night’s Sleep.

Of course a Kentucky landed at the top! We’ve made quirky an art form.

The Quirky night’s sleep in Kentucky (okay…. one of them) can be found at Wildwood Inn Tropical Dome and Theme Suites in Florence – near Cincinnati.

In USA Today:

This memorable motel near Cincinnati gives guests an opportunity to sleep in a faux African village.Ã?  “Each room is a circular African hut arrayed around a pond,” Kirby (co-founder of RoadsideAmerica.com) says.Ã?  The more traditional two-story motel out front has a hillbilly-themed suite with a bed in the back of a pickup truck, along with cave rooms.Ã?  “It’s a standout,” Kirby says.Ã?  “It’s not aÃ?  murky, shady kind of place, it has family appeal.”Ã?  800-758-2335

The article included a picture of the Hillbilly room – it looks like a hoot and a half.

You HAVE to visit Wildwood Inn’s website and check out the other rooms. Other rooms include Cupid, Nautical, Western, Victorian, Arctic Cave, Aladdin, Polynesian, Oriental, King Spa, etc.Ã?  The website has pictures of each.

This place would be worth making a trip for all by itself!Ã?  Most of the times,Ã?  hotels or inns are found AFTER the trip has been all planned out. In this case, I’d book my room at Wildwood, THEN decide what I’ll see and so!Ã?  Wildwood Inn has a special page where you can do just that. See Local Attractions for a list of things to see and do in the area.

With all due respect to everyone on the list, it’d be pretty tough to beat Wildwood for the most memorable attraction.
