General Burnside State Park’s Gorgeous Golf Course (Pictures)

April 21, 2016 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

General Burnside State Park's Golf Course

The gorgeous renovated golf course at General Burnside Island is located on an island surrounded by Lake Cumberland in Somerset.

Designer Brian Ault also designed Dale Hollow’s Golf Course and Hidden Cove, which are both recognized by Golf Digest.  At 6,394 yards, the course features Zoysia fairways, bent grass trees and greens.

General Burnside State Park's Golf Course

General Burnside Island State Park was named for the Civil War General Ambrose Burnside. Burnside led patrols along the Cumberland River keeping vigilant lookout for Confederate soldiers.

The Park offers camping, fishing, picnicking (with grills, two picnic shelters – one with a restroom – picnic tables, and a playground), and has a six lane launching boat ramp for easy access for a fun-filled day on the beautiful lake.

General Burnside State Park's Golf Course

I’m creating a photo album for General Burnside and will be adding other pictures I took yesterday in the next few days. I was just especially anxious to get these pictures up – as a means of encouraging you to get out and golf at one of the State Park System’s gorgeous courses (See Kentucky State Park Golf Courses). The weather is absolutely IDEAL for it and the scenery will take your breath away.

We have the pictures to prove it!

See General Burnside State Park for more information.

Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park Golf Course Flowers

Earth laughs in flowers.  ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

The pics used in the collage above aren’t from a botanical garden or swanky spa – though they certainly could pass for either.  These were taken over the past two years at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park’s beautiful golf course.  The landscaping – and overall meticulous care – of this golf course is phenomenal.

Whenever we go to Kentucky State Parks (or other tourist spots), I always pull for them to represent our state in the best way possible.  This golf course (and the entire property of Kentucky Dam Village State Park) is just a picture perfect example of what it means to represent!  It always makes me extra proud of my state. That’s something you absolutely cannot put a price tag on.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and, in the case of Kentucky, I’d say that’s 100 percent true.  We could use up all the words in the English language (and even borrow some from other languages), but we could never truly describe how beautiful or special our beloved state is.

You’ll have to just see for yourself in our growing collection of pictures of Kentucky! Also, be sure to check out our Pictures of the Day.

Picture of the Day: Beautiful Valhalla Golf Club

October 22, 2012 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Valhalla Golf Club

Valhalla Golf Club‘s beautiful course was designed by one of the best golfers of all time,  Jack Nicklaus.  That’s pretty much all that needs to be said, isn’t it?

The legendary Club sits on 486-acres in the eastern portion of Louisville. If you watch the PGA tour on television, you’ve undoubtedly seen them play Valhalla. In 2009, the PGA announced that the Senior PGA Championship and the PGA Championship would return to Valhalla in 2011 and 2014 respectively.

The picture shown here is the 15th hole and, yes, it is even more gorgeous in person.  The gentleman in blue is David Burns, and I’m told that he is the best caddy at Valhalla Golf Club, bar none.

On this particular day, the weather was cool and rainy but David never missed a beat. Never complained. He effortlessly took care of four golfers in his group.  I’m pretty certain this man knows Valhalla as well as he knows his own face. His knowledge and love of both the game and Valhalla were as impressive as the beautiful course, itself.

As David pointed out, Valhalla is one of the best places to play golf in autumn in the entire state. Or spring. Or summer…

We have so many things to be proud of here in Kentucky and Louisville’s Valhalla Golf Club most definitely makes the list.

Picture of the Day: Wasioto Winds at Pine Mountain

September 28, 2012 by Joi Sigers Leave a Comment

Wasioto Winds

When on golf courses with my husband, one name always comes up, Wasioto Winds at Pine Mountain State Resort Park.  When the guys stand around the golf cart talking about Kentucky’s prettiest courses and their favorite Kentucky State Park courses, Wasioto Winds always comes up.

Well, I can see why!

From Kentucky State Parks:

Wasioto Winds (pronounced Wah-see-OH-tuh, means Valley of the Deer) was rated fourth among Best New Affordable Public Golf Courses in January 2003 issue of Golf Digest. The ten million dollar Michael Hurdzan-designed golf course is “a difficult course but friendly to the high handicapper.”Ã?  – Continue Reading!

Pictures of the Kentucky Dam Village Golf Course Have Been Added to the Photo Album

Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park Golf Course

Beautiful Day + Beautiful Golf Course = Life’s Good!

I just added a page of pictures of Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park’s Golf Course to the photo album. My husband, Michael, and one of our friends played a round of golf on Saturday (August 18, 2012) and I did my thing… which means I drank Vitamin Water Zero, took pictures, and talked incessantly about how beautiful the golf course is and how much damage I intended to to do fried catfish after the round.

I don’t just talk a good game when it comes to fried catfish, either. I play the game like it was meant to be played.

We ate at Calvert City’s Willow Pond Restaurant after they finished their round and the food was as delicious as always. It’s one of Michael’s favorite places to eat in the Kentucky Lake area (if not his favorite), so he’d have been happy whether he golfed well or not.

Enjoy the pictures, but get to Kentucky Dam Village’s Golf Course and check it out in person as soon as you can.  Autumn in Kentucky is perfect for golf!
